Linking upbeat communities, private and public sector

-
Successful communities owe much to well-planned and efficient development. With this in mind, the Chamber of Real Estate and Builders Associations (CREBA) and the De La Salle College of St. Benilde School of Professional and Continuing Education (SPaCE) will offer a course on "Real Estate and Environmental Planning" for professionals and real estate developers and allied builders as part of a post-baccalaureate diploma program in real estate management.

It will be held every Saturday from Jan. 27 to March 3 on the 9th floor, CSB International Conference Center, Estrada St. cor. Arellano St., Malate, Manila.

Prof. Roque Arrieta-Magno, overall program director, said the course will discuss the mechanics of partnership between the public and-private sectors as "movers and shakers" in community building through real estate development. It is designed for developers, landowners, city and community planning officers, architects, engineers and other professionals.

Magno said the topics are introduction to environmental planning, land use planning concepts: water supply and sanitation, solid waste management, public domain utilization and protected areas, transportation and infrastructure, strategic planning in the urban planning context, environmental certificate of clearance (ECC), environmental impact assessment (EIA), and engineering geological and geohazard assessment report (EGGAR); Philippine planning system, plan implementation in the Philippines, and urban planning profession. Facilitators are recognized professionals from the academe, private practice and government agencies.

Magno is a professorial lecturer at the School of Urban and Regional Planning of the University of the Philippines. He served as assistant secretary of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), deputy assistant minister of the then Ministry of Human Settlements, fellow/program director, Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP); and commissioner for planning, Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board (HLURB).
