Window design feat finalists revealed

Hunter Douglas, the world leader in window fashions, has announced the 12 official entries to its "Signature Windows" design competition that would be competing in an exhibit to be held at the Beato Angelico Gallery of the University of Santo Tomas (UST) in Manila on September 8.

From among the numerous entries submitted by students from the UST-College of Fine Arts and Design (CFAD), twelve have been chosen for exhibition and are now eligible to win top honors and cash prizes totaling P45,000.

A distinguished panel of judges composed of professionals from the fields of architecture and design, the academe, and celebrity consumers will be on hand on the opening day of the exhibit to select the three best entries.

Using the theme, "Signature Windows: Looking outside the box," UST CFAD students were invited to submit original window designs that would showcase Hunter Douglas window fashions.

Each entry was a collaborative effort, with students working closely together in groups to conceptualize a design that would best illustrate Hunter Douglas’ ability to provide innovative, cutting-edge design solutions for any window shape. The exhibit will feature full scale representations of these designs using the actual Hunter Douglas windows solutions specified by the students.

An interactive exhibit of the rendered window designs of the 12 finalists will run on September 8 to 16 at the Beato Angelico Gallery of UST. Assistant Professor Mary Ann Bulanagi will serve as curator.

New generation designs

Inspired to be creative, a wide variety of designs ranging from Egyptian inspired to contemporary and modern concepts numbered among the finalists.

Meanwhile, the team comprised of Jadeline Ralieta, Shiel Taguba, Bianca Buenafe, Crystal Alegre, and Pauline Custodio opted for a window design titled "Glimpse From The Past" that allows people to lean outside to admire a 180 degree view from an overlook.

The entry title "Dynamic Angle" by Jonna Dixie Cordova, Ma. Katrina Lopez, and Leah Valmonte is a hip and ultramodern window design with slanted view. It utilizes an aluminum power coated framing in simulated wood finish that supports the clear tempered glass panels to make it resistant to stress.

To maximize ventilation in their "Blue Wave" concept window, teammates, John Paolo Castro, Da Sol Moon, and Nerisa Narciso chose premierline vertical blinds which keep the vane stack at the outermost edge of the blinds, reducing sway and keeping vanes neat while traversing.

Complementing the beauty in the details of their window concept, Sir Lian Salvador, Michael Tolentino, Nica Teves, Josefina Hipolito, and Joselle Algabre decided to use horizontal wood blinds to give the room aesthetic charm and sophistication in their entry titled "Bow Type Window."
