Metrobank Foundation supports art excellence
March 10, 2006 | 12:00am
Aimed at promoting a culture of unsurpassed excellence, Metrobank Foundation hosts again a national contest that would engender new opportunities for talented Filipino artists and instill pride for the Philippine cultural heritage.
The Metrobank Art and Design Excellence (MADE) is an annual competition that honors the works of exceptional artists in four disciplines: visual arts, sculpture, architecture and interior design. Every year, the theme for each category is always geared toward engendering awareness about the diverse significant social issues faced by the country.
Metrobank Foundation, the official corporate social responsibility arm of the Metrobank Group, spearheads various social development projects in the Philippines and other parts of Asia including the Search of Outstanding Teachers, College Scholarship Programs, and recognition programs for members of the Philippine National Police and the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
The foundations first advocacy for the arts dates back to 1984 when it launched the Metrobank Annual Painting Competition. The contest was a remarkable milestone because it allowed for creative self-expression and contributed to a healthier social atmosphere in a time of economic and political turmoil. More than two decades later, Metrobank Foundation continues to nurture talents and nourish lives by putting into light a new generation of brilliant artists and launching them to well-deserved prominence.
The competition acquired the name MADE when it expanded last year to include architects, interior designers and sculptors. Metrobank Foundation formed a partnership with the United Architects of the Philippines and the Philippine Institute of Interior Designers to ensure that the industrys highest standards of integrity and credibility are met. The foundation has also helped in awakening and strengthening appreciation for the arts through museums, exhibits, workshops and festivals.
