Rising in a portion of the former San Lazaro Hippodrome, Avida Towers, a residential condominium project, is expected to set new development standards among affordable residential condominiums in the City of Manila.
Appealing to young families, professionals, entrepreneurs and overseas Filipino workers, the project is the third in a series of highly successful multi-tower projects by Laguna Properties Holdings Inc. (LPHI). Recently renamed Avida Land Corp., the Ayala Land subsidiary offers units ranging from P1 million to P3.4 million in its Sta. Cruz, Manila location. Avida Towers San Lazaro is a joint venture between Avida Land Corp. and the Manila Jockey Club, Inc., a leading gaming company which has diversified into real estate projects.

According to Avida president Dinna Bayangos, many Filipinos are driven to work abroad to earn more money for the family and for a home. Bayangos relates that the company recently changed its name from LPHI to Avida because the new brand name better reflects the position of the company in relation to its mission and the aspirations of its clients. Avida is a contraction of "Ave" meaning "to celebrate" and "vida" or "life." Originally established in 1991 to provide homes to workers and junior executives employed in the Ayala-developed portion of Sta. Rosa, Laguna, the company has since expanded to 13 other locations offering houses and lots, lots only and high-rise residential condominiums.
Brand research conducted by a leading consultant reveal that homeowners, many of whom are OFWs who have been exposed to higher housing standards abroad, consider owning a home developed by the Ayala Land subsidiary, a milestone in their quest for a better life. They view owning an LPHI home as a source of pride and cause to celebrate life, the studies disclose.
Until recently, Avida had focused most of its Metro Manila projects in areas South of Makati and in selected provinces in Luzon. When the Manila Jockey Club moved its horseracing operations to Carmona, Cavite, the property conveniently located near the University Belt and major transport terminals was quickly acquired by Ayala Land and assigned to its subsidiary. Avida Towers represented a good opportunity for the former LPHI to demonstrate its commitment to set quality benchmarks in the mid-income segment, according to Chris Maglanoc, Avida condominiums division manager.
