After wooing Metro Manila shoppers with the initial installment of S&R Price Club, Fort Bonifacio Development Corporation (FBDC) scores another first with the signing of a five-year lease agreement with Sports Kamp. Envisioned to be a multi-sport outdoor entertainment center, Sports Kamp is the only facility of its kind to rise within the Global City and the Metro Manila area.
A modification of summer camps popular in the US, Sports Kamp will serve as a training facility for popular league sports such as basketball, soccer, softball and baseball. It will house facilities such as baseball/softball batting cages, soccer skills obstacle course, basketball shoot out hoops, a stratus ball volleyball court, tetherball courts, an outdoor maze and other innovative outdoor activity areas.
"Sports Kamp simulates the feel of rugged outdoor camps in a secure, fun, encouraging yet challenging environment. The set-up provides for maximum enjoyment with lesser risks for injury. Our goal is to create a complex that will appeal not only sports enthusiasts but to families as an alternative venue for recreation," said project proponent Joel Jimenez. "More importantly, the Global Citys proximity to both the Makati and Ortigas CBDs suits our aim to also promote Sports Kamp as an accessible and innovative venue for corporate teambuilding."
Aside from the said amenities, Sports Kamp will employ qualified personnel to provide its users with professional coaching and assistance as needed. Training packages and corporate team building programs will also be developed on a year round basis. Teaming up with Joel Jimenez is his wife Gidget and Luis Carlos Laurel of Kids at Work.
"Sports Kamp is a great complement to our existing retail and entertainment offerings like S&R Price, Bonifacio Stopover, The Fort and the Fort Square. The presence of an outdoor sports facility in the Global City is a step towards our goal of becoming a premiere retail and entertainment destination in the near future," said Reymundo S. Conchangco, vice president for commercial operations of Fort Bonifacio Development Corp.
Already in the final stages of design, the complex is expected to break ground by the 3rd quarter of 2002 within PEZA accredited e-Square IT park. By the 4th quarter of 2002, Sports Kamp will be ready to serve the needs of the citys growing population and its visitors.
This early, the vast expanse of the Global City is already a mecca to hobbyists, joggers, skaters and cyclists from neighboring villages and barangays. Establishments like Par 43 a mini golf facility located beside Dencios at the Fort Square is also attracting families on the lookout for alternative recreation.
