Like all S&R Price warehouses all over the world, the Ortigas branch is designed and built to withstand natural calamities like typhoons and earthquakes. Don McMillan, S&R Price senior construction manager, explains that S&R Price in Ortigas is constructed not only according to Philippine building codes but also according to California seismic standards. This means that every warehouse built by S&R Price can withstand an earthquake of up to eight as measured on the Richter scale.

Key materials used in building are primarily imported and some are sourced locally. According to McMillan, S&R Price uses concrete hollow blocks combined with reinforcements, tied to a steel frame buildup so that each store is virtually typhoon and earthquake proof. This has been put to a test last year in San Salvador when two S&R Price warehouses withstood a powerful earthquake with no structural damages.

Materials used for construction are only for the best quality; thus assuring that each building will last for 20 years or more. For example, the S&R Price flooring on the selling area is a unique company trademark that is cost-efficient and low-maintenance. The shiny yet non-slip flooring surface is also meant to withstand the test of time. The "smart building" concept has been applied at the Ortigas branch. The warehouse will be self-contained with its own generators and water tanks. Uninterrupted power supply will be utilized for all refrigeration equipment, POS and system-related equipment. Other areas will get full power within eight seconds after a power interruption.

The warehouse lighting design also incorporates photocell sensors that determine the amount of light needed by the building. The skylights are UV resistant, which means that only the light from the outside gets into the structure and not the heart from the sun’s rays.

The S&R Price air-conditioning system is water-based, environment friendly, cost- and energy-efficient. The system utilizes chilled water as the medium for cooling. The Ortigas warehouse, build by LYT Construction and Services Corp., has been constructed on a two-hectare lot and has a selling area of 5,00 square meters.

S&R Price Ortigas will have its own bus stop and street signals or traffic lights for shopping convenience. There will be double access on both sides of the property to avoid traffic jams. The parking area fronting the property has the capacity of 400 cars.
