CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga, Philippines – Up to 187 firearms with expired registration were turned over for safekeeping to the Central Luzon police yesterday.

The voluntary surrender of the firearms by their owners was made possible through the intensified implementation of the Accounting and Disposition of Firearms with Expired Registration.

Brig. Gen. Jess Mendez, Central Luzon police director, said the surrender of the firearms within 24 hours is proof of the significance of focused police work, proper coordination and public cooperation.

“Every firearm that is properly accounted for lessens the risk posed to our communities. Together with the Unified 911, we are strengthening both prevention and response so our people can feel safer in their homes and communities,” Mendez said.
