More luxury and features for less price: Nissan unveils 2016 Patrol Royale

2ND OPINION - Manny N. de los Reyes - The Philippine Star

Since it first rolled off local Nissan showrooms five years ago, the Patrol Royale has offered a new level of luxury for the large SUV genre. From its commanding design, elegant interior, and comfortable ride, the Patrol Royale marries the ruggedness of an SUV with the sophistication of a luxury sedan. Early this month at One Rockwell in Makati City, Nissan Philippines Inc. (NPI) reintroduced to the media an even more capable, more luxurious, and more dynamic Patrol Royale—giving the market more reasons to rediscover prestige with the brand.

The new Patrol Royale features a sophisticated exterior that showcases the perfect combination of power and luxury. Muscular yet upscale styling emphasizes the vehicle’s commanding road presence, while still retaining Nissan’s signature design elements.

The new Patrol Royale’s chrome V-shaped front grille, chrome accents on its door handles, window frame, and side air intake vents bring a more upmarket and luxurious take on the previous Patrol model. Fully integrated front and rear bumpers give the Patrol Royale a stronger yet sleeker look, while a sculpted body boasts an eye-catching design.

LED headlamps with LED daytime running lamps, body color bumper, and 20-inch alloy wheels framed by subtly flared wheel arches give the new Patrol Royale an instantly recognizable look as one of the leading members of the luxury SUV class. These design cues create a more premium and prestigious vehicle while paying homage to the Nissan Patrol’s off-road heritage.

Inside, the new Patrol Royale brings luxury to both driver and passenger. Plush leather seats, a soft leather-wrapped steering wheel, high-grade wood paneling with chrome accent on the dashboard, high-quality plastic finishes, and sunroof create a premium ambiance in the vehicle. Adding to the interior luxury of the vehicle are top-class noise vibration (NVH) technologies that, along with the aerodynamic body design, minimize noise from the outside.

The new Patrol Royale’s climate control system comes with a new curtain vent feature – a first in its class. The curtain vent effectively blocks heat from penetrating the cabin that, coupled with soft ambient lighting, completes the high-end ambiance of the vehicle.

The Patrol Royale also features an entertainment system comprised of a large 7-inch LCD front monitor, two 7-inch individual WVGA headrest monitors, DVD player, and game consoles that create a virtual home theatre within the vehicle. The experience is further enhanced by a state-of-the art 13-speaker Bose audio system with 2GB music box hard drive.

The Patrol Royale is powered by a 5.6-liter petrol V8 engine paired with a 5-speed automatic with manual-shift mode transferring power through Nissan’s proven All-Mode four-wheel drive.

The Patrol Royale features a Hydraulic Body Motion Control (HBMC) suspension system—a world-first for a full-size SUV—delivering exceptional handling, comfort, and stability. Hydraulic chambers integrated into each shock absorber automatically control suspension travel. The chambers are cross-linked with piping, allowing for the seamless transfer of hydraulic fluid from one side of the vehicle to the other. When cornering, roll stiffness is increased, reducing the amount of body lean over.

The system is also able to vary suspension travel independently on either side of the vehicle, creating a comfortable, flat, and stable ride previously unavailable to drivers in this segment.

For added comfort and safety, the Patrol Royal offers a number of safety features such as an Around View Mirror (AVM), which provides an all-around vision of every side of the vehicle, Hill Start Assist and Hill Descent Control, that gives additional control and flexibility in different terrain, and a six-airbag system positioned at the front, side and curtain areas of the vehicle.

Perhaps the best news of all is that the new Nissan Patrol Royale, which is available in Pearl White and Black Obsidian, is priced at P3,990,000—almost a full million pesos lower than before. Now that’s what you call a Royale Flush. You can’t ask for a better hand than that.
