Volkswagen PH bags 12 wins in Auto Focus People’s Choice Awards
MANILA, Philippines - From its German origins as “the people’s car,” Volkswagen in the Philippines has become among the People’s Choice.
During the awarding ceremonies of the 2015-2016 Auto Focus People’s Choice and Media’s Choice Awards held last October 16 at Valle Verde Country Club in Pasig City, the Volkswagen Golf GTI, Touareg, Touran, and Beetle bagged a total of 12 awards, including 8 Media’s Choice plaques.
This marks the most number of wins Volkswagen Philippines has garnered from the long-running TV motoring show’s annual People’s Choice awards since it joined.
Volkswagen Philippines president and CEO John Philip Orbeta, who proudly accepted the trophies, remarked: “What makes the Auto Focus People’s Choice Awards especially meaningful for us at Volkswagen Philippines were our Media’s Choice wins, since these were selections made by professionals and a much tougher group of judges.”
The Media’s Choice recognitions were handed out to the Volkswagen Golf GTI for Best Engine Performance and Best Value for Money; the Touareg for Best Engine Performance, Best Value for Money, and Best Design; and the Touran for Best Engine Performance, Best Safety Features, and Best Design.
The Golf GTI was also Category winner in the Luxury Subcompact, while the Touran dominated the Luxury MPV category.
Meanwhile, the Touareg was the runner-up in the Luxury Midsize SUV category, and the Beetle was likewise runner-up in the Luxury Compact Sedan segment.
The Auto Focus People’s Choice Awards, held annually since 2005, is organized and conducted by Sunshine Television to determine the cream of the crop in the Philippine automotive industry.
The People’s Choice Awards employs a nationwide poll via the Auto Focus website and Facebook page to single out the country’s most popular automobile brands and models. The Media’s Choice Awards gathers the educated opinions of media professionals and practitioners to determine which vehicles stand out in terms of design, styling, performance and overall value.
The People’s Choice Awards also gives weight to unit sales of model contenders from January to September of the covered year, as reported by Stradcom, the official IT provider of the Land Transportation Office. The awards value of 20 percent for sales and 80 percent for votes serves as the true sounding board for the local auto industry, reflecting the automobile preference of the motoring public. The Media’s Choice awards, on the other hand, require more than 50 percent of the total votes cast before a winner is declared.
