The Porsche Circuit: Porsche celebrates 30 years of passion in SG

2ND OPINION - Manny N. de los Reyes - The Philippine Star

SINGAPORE – Porsche and Singapore share more than a little in common – both are synonymous with the pursuit and achievement of excellence and both enjoy the same results from decades of relentless progress and development. It is thus fitting to jointly celebrate the twin milestones of the city state’s golden jubilee as well as the 30th anniversary of Stuttgart Auto, the sole dealer of Porsche in Singapore.

To commemorate these twin celebrations, a celebratory event, The Porsche Circuit, was held at the Suntec Convention Centre in the last week of July. The Porsche Circuit marked Singapore’s 50 years of nation-building, Porsche’s rich history, and Stuttgart Auto’s many accomplishments over the past three decades.

Celebrations began with a gala dinner attended by 450 guests including the media. The evening was graced by S Iswaran, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister for Home Affairs and Trade & Industry, as well as Earl Bamber, one of the winners of the 2015 24 Hours of Le Mans, as well as reigning Porsche Supercup and double Porsche Carrera Cup Asia champion.

Two new 911 variants – the 911 Targa 4 GTS and the 911 GT3 RS, as well as two unique celebratory models – the 911 Turbo S SG50 custom-built for Singapore and the Cayenne SG50 Exclusive Edition, which is limited to 10 units for Singapore, were unveiled.  On display for the first time in Singapore is also the 911 Carrera S Martini Racing Edition, a limited edition vehicle customized by Porsche Exclusive.

“Since its humble beginnings in Stuttgart in 1963, Porsche has always been known and renowned for engineering remarkable, high-performance sports cars that are both racetrack-worthy, exhilarating, and yet practical for everyday use, steadfastly capturing the hearts of many around the world. I have been a Porsche enthusiast for as long as I can remember, and I consider it an amazing privilege to be able to represent this iconic sports car brand in Singapore for the past 30 years. I am very thankful to everyone who has supported our growth throughout the years – our customers, business partners, and of course, our dedicated staff. All of us at Stuttgart Auto have come a long way since we first opened our doors in 1985, and I am truly looking forward to the next decades of delivering an excellent ownership experience to all current and future Porsche owners,” says Karsono Kwee, executive chairman of Eurokars Group of Companies and founder of Stuttgart Auto Pte Ltd.

Guests immersed themselves in the Porsche experience by coming up close with the newly-launched Porsche models, the current Porsche model range, a series of iconic Porsche models as well as Porsche racing cars. This includes a display of all seven generations of the Porsche 911, a replica of the 919 Hybrid that brought Porsche the winning title at the 2015 24 Hour of Le Mans endurance race, and the 911 GT1, the extraordinary race car that won the same race 17 years ago.

911 GT3 RS: Limits pushed

Blurring the lines between a street car and a race car, the 911 GT3 RS is a race car you can buy off a showroom. Extensive modifications to its 4.0-liter flat-six drivetrain (to the tune of 500hp and 460 Nm of torque) with a modified PDK gearbox, race-tuned aerodynamics, and a lightweight carbon fiber and magnesium body enhance performance even more than in the 911 GT3. With a lap time of seven minutes and 20 seconds, the new SG$797,888 GT3 RS even beats the historic record of the Carrera GT supercar of just under seven minutes and 29 seconds on the Nürburgring. Zero to 100 km/h is a mere 3.3 seconds with a 0-200 km/h sprint in 10.9 seconds.

911 Targa 4 GTS: More powerful, dynamic and exquisitely styled

The Targa’s stylish roll bar and revolutionary roof concept earned it a place as a timeless icon. To mark the 50th anniversary of the 911 Targa, a Porsche is offering this very popular model in the more powerful and dynamic GTS version for the first time. The targa concept of the SG$660,288 911 Targa 4 GTS delivers very safe driving enjoyment with all-wheel drive and a rollover protection bar; it also delivers open-air fun with a targa top that stows fully automatically. Contributing to a boost in dynamic performance are the 430hp GTS engine, together with the standard Sport Chrono package, PASM chassis, 20-inch wheels and a sport exhaust system.

911 Carrera S Martini Racing Edition

The 911 Carrera S Martini Racing Edition, based on the latest generation of 911 model series, features the signature “Martini Racing Design” decals on the bonnet, roof, Aerokit Cup rear wing and sides. This feature is especially striking on the car’s white exterior. After years in motorsports and apart from the 918 Spyder, the 911 Carrera S is the first Porsche model to carry this design. The dashboard trim and the illuminated door sill guards in stainless steel feature the “911 Carrera S – Martini Racing Edition” logo in red, highlighting the uniqueness of this SG$627,680 car.

911 Turbo S SG50: Custom-built for Singapore

In celebration of Singapore’s 50th year of independence, Porsche has specially customized a car based on the most powerful member of the 991 series – the 560-hp 911 Turbo S. The eyecatching model is the only one of its kind in the world. It includes special SG50 elements and features Singapore’s colors in the exterior and interior. Special commemorative elements include an SG50 logo-embossed storage compartment lid, a Carrara White Metallic dashboard trim, and illuminated doorsill guards in stainless steel adorned with the special “911 turbo S SG50 Custom-built for Singapore” logo. It retails for SG$1,050,000.

Cayenne SG50 Exclusive Edition for Singapore

A commemorative model specially built to celebrate the nation’s golden jubilee, the SG$450,000 Cayenne SG50 Exclusive Edition is limited to 10 units in Singapore. This edition is based on the immensely popular new Cayenne model and includes distinctive SG50 design elements and additional equipment. The exterior mirrors, door handles, double-wing rear spoiler and SportDesign package with side skirts are painted in high-gloss Black. On the interior, a Carrara White Metallic dashboard trim and the illuminated door sill guards in stainless steel with the special “Cayenne SG50 Exclusive Edition for Singapore” logo as well as the front and rear head restraints with embossed SG50 logo pay tribute to Singapore’s 50th birthday.
