Mitsubishi Motors Philippines chasing history with the Mirage G4 Eco Drive Marathon

MANILA, Philippines - On December 1, 2014 Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) began what would be a historic undertaking with the Mirage G4 Eco Drive Marathon. Their intention: to challenge the Mirage and Mirage G4’s mileage claim of 21 km/L by driving from Laoag, Ilocos Norte all the way south for as far as they can go on just one full tank of gas.

The Mitsubishi Mirage G4 Eco Drive Marathon consists of three teams of two drivers, two Mitsubishi Mirage G4s as well as one Mitsubishi Mirage. On the first day of the marathon, the teams left Manila for Laoag. There, they did last minute preparations as well as fueling up their tanks for one last time. The Automobile Association of the Philippines (AAP) then sealed their fuel tanks shut to ensure the integrity of the marathon.

And on December 2, 2014, the Mitsubishi Mirage G4 Eco Drive Marathon was officially launched by MMPC’s Vice President for Marketing Services Froilan G. Dytianquin at the NAMCO Laoag dealer. The teams drove to Alabang after a grueling 10-hour drive. From Alabang, they headed off to Batangas Port to take a Ro-Ro to Calapan. From there, they continued on to Roxas City where they will once again take the Ro-Ro to Caticlan.

For the sake of safety, the marathon was stopped due to Typhoon Ruby hitting the Philippines. The teams had to take refuge in Iloilo to wait out the storm. Once the team caught a glimpse of the clear blue skies, they eagerly hit the road once again. From Bacolod, they made their way to San Carlos and took to the seas on their way to Toledo, Cebu via Ro-Ro.

With the Mitsubishi Mirage G4 Eco Drive Marathon team almost halfway through, the journey is well on track to achieving its goal.
