EMotors, Inc. launches ZUM E-Trikes, opens dealership in Iloilo

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - EMotors, Inc. (EMI), the 100 percent Filipino-owned electric tricycle (e-trike) maker, recently launched its ZUM electric trikes and opened its ZüM dealership in Iloilo City. The ZüM dealership’s opening ceremonies were officiated by Senate President Franklin Drilon, Iloilo City Mayor Jed Mabilog, ZüM Iloilo Dealership President Alan Sy, and EMotors CEO Elizabeth H. Lee.

“This marks another milestone in our goal to serve the needs of Filipinos for an affordable, low-cost, low-maintenance, innovative and easy-to-use vehicle—one that helps increase one’s income while at the same time, helps clean our air,” said Lee.

EMotors, Inc. (EMI), a social enterprise, aims to make a positive impact on three fronts: 1) poverty alleviation through livelihood creation; 2) job creation and employment ; and 3) climate change mitigation. The company aims to provide a solution to three (3) compelling problems:  low income, high cost and high pollution.

Iloilo City, strategically located at the heart of the Philippines, is touted as the benchmark for its strong environmental stance by taking care of the environment, lowering its carbon footprint by encouraging the use of clean, green modes of transport, among others. The city is known for its sustainable development objectives with the rehabilitation of the Iloilo River, which gained international acclaim, as well as the construction of the Iloilo River Esplanade that enhanced tourism in the city while increasing environmental awareness.

Iloilo city has accomplished massive infrastructure developments and is at the forefront of being a model city for others to follow. The city’s tremendous growth in terms of investments, infrastructure development, and the surge in local business activity, are strengthened by the visionary leadership of its city leaders, led by Governor Defensor and Mayor Mabilog. Senate President Franklin Drilon has been instrumental in Iloilo city’s tremendous growth, demonstrating foresight and political will to do what it takes, taking Iloilo to where it is today.

To further bolster the pride of Ilonggos with Iloilo spearheading the green environment movement, the arrival of EMotors’ ZüM electric tricycles in the city is a welcome endeavor.

“With the launch of EMotors ZUM Iloilo, we again emphasize the environment. I am pleased that EMotors has chosen Iloilo to be the spearhead of this effort to clean up our environment through the electric tricycles which is so essential if we are to succeed in our clean air campaign,” says Senate President Franklin Drilon, who was the Guest of Honor at the opening.

Drilon further adds, “Apart from the business aspect—doing business in the city—it is the environmentally friendly facility we are looking for. The ZUM etrikes are not only environmentally friendly, they also yield a better economic benefit for the owners of these electric tricycles.”

Mayor Jed Mabilog for his part says, “This further expands and complements our objective of greening Iloilo City with the use of clean, green, electric vehicles. We need to help mitigate the adverse effects of climate change and be the model for environmental tourism advocates to come and see the advances we’ve made so far.”

EMotors describes itself is a social enterprise whose primary goal is not to make money, but to meet needs; and that its success depends not on staying ahead of others, but on serving others with the purpose of glorifying God.

EMotors Inc. is the country’s first and only 100-percent Filipino-owned manufacturer and assembler of three-wheeled zero-emission electric vehicles (“e-trikes”), to be registered with the Dept. of Trade and Industry/Board of Investment’s Motor Vehicle Development Program under EO156. It is likewise the first to be registered with the EO226, the Investment Priority Plan. The company is also accredited with the Land Transportation Office (LTO).
