Motor Image launches all-new Subaru WRX, WRX STI

MANILA, Philippines - There is new reason for Subaru fans to celebrate as Motor Image Pilipnas, the exclusive importer and distributor of Subaru vehicles in Southeast Asia, recently launched the all-new Subaru WRX and WRX STI models at a regional Subaru event that was held at the Clark International Speedway early last week. The event was graced by Glenn Tan, Executive Director of Tan Chong International Ltd., of which Motor Image is a subsidiary.

Also there to explain the technical improvements of the new WRX and WRX STI was Subaru Engineer Tetsuo Fujinuki, who disclosed that the most important consideration given to the new models is that “the vehicle performs as the driver thinks it will.” He further explained that the goal was really to make the driver feel that the car was an extension of himself, hence the tagline ‘Pure Power in your Control.’

“The all-new Subaru WRX and WRX STI stay true to the car’s unrivaled performance heritage while bringing luxury and refinement to an all new level,” remarked Glenn Tan during his opening speech at the event. “The result of combining the highest range of technologies and improvements presents one of the best versions of the brand’s iconic performance models,” he added.

The new Subaru WRX is propelled by a new 2.0L direct injection turbo (DIT) Boxer engine that can spit out 268 horses, while simultaneously providing superior ride quality alongside its either 6-speed manual transmission or Sport Lineartronic manumatic transmission. While sporting a more stylish design that is wider and more aggressive, it now also comes with a stiffer chassis, a sports exhaust system and 17-inch and 18-inch alloy wheels.

Inside the cabin is a more upscale, sporty feeling with its elegantly-designed center console fitted with carbon accents and metal trims. The flat-bottom, leather-wrapped steering wheel and bucket seats with its standout red-stitching scream of its sporty lineage, while its new string of user technologies add to its refinement and general desirability. And just as it has been known the world over, the WRX continues its tradition of being that car that can satisfy you with distinctive sports performance, while providing the practicality and space of afour4-door sedan. This way, your performance vehicle can somewhat moonlight as your everyday family car, too.

Furthermore, on top of its usual core technologies that include Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and Variable Torque Distribution, its Vehicle Dynamics Control system has also been enhanced.

Meanwhile, the all-new WRX STI continues its tradition of being ‘the coveted performance car’ by offering luxury alongside the most powerful engine in its segment—a 2.5L turbocharged boxer engine mated with a reinforced, 6-speed manual transmission (that makes things even more fun with its convenient, short-throw shifting).

Tasteful, sporty enhancements to its interior are its bucket seats with STI embroidery, sports pedals and leather upholstery. Also delightful are its electroluminescent gauges and meaty, flat-bottom steering wheel that has shortcut buttons to audio controls and cruise control.

The STI is blessed with a stiffer chassis, firmer springs and faster steering—all set for some action-packed sporty driving on demand. Additionally, it carries a rally-bred drivetrain and its sophisticated all-wheel drive handling agility that Subaru is known for. And to keep to its tradition, Subaru also tested the STI in various road conditions across several countries, including the unforgiving Nurburgring circuit in Germany. It is through this comprehensive series of tests that Subaru engineers have honed this vehicle to conform to exceptional safety standards, completing the package of a fun, performance-driven car that can fit in the family and keep passengers as secure as they can get.

Like Engr. Fujinuki expressed, the WRX and WRX STI aim to increase driver confidence in their cars. Thus, both cars are virtually a fusion of Power and Control, for a genuine sports sedan experience.

The all-new Subaru WRX and WRX STI will be for sale beginning this May, and will be priced at P1,888,000 and P2,478,000, respectively.
