Peugeot stages final round of Eco Fun Run 2013: 28.5 km/l record stands

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - After successfully staging the Peugeot Eco Fun Run last June 27, August 17 and September 21 where amazing averages of 26.9 km/l, 27.0 km/l and 28.5 km/l were set respectively, official Peugeot importer and distributor Eurobrands Distributor Inc. (EDI) once again held the Peugeot Eco Fun Run last November 16. This time, while the highest recorded mileage did not go past the astounding 28.5 km/l mark set during the previous staging, the participants’ averages were closer to each other—indicating a growing proficiency among participants where eco-driving is concerned.

“We are very glad that our participants have grown more proficient in maximizing their vehicles’ potentials. From the very start, we had envisioned the Peugeot Eco Fun Run as an opportunity for us at EDI to impart to our customers the best way to enjoy their extremely fuel efficient Peugeot vehicles. Obviously, the message is getting through—especially to those who participate in the owners’ division,” said Dong Magsajo, EDI Marketing & Communications Director.

The Peugeot Eco Fun Run has two separate divisions—an owners division where Peugeot owners are taught how to milk the best from their vehicles’ e-HDi Hicrohybrid engines, and a guest division where anyone from the media and EDI’s business partners can enjoy for themselves the Peugeot driving experience. In the Peugeot Eco Fun Run, participants are disallowed from turning off the airconditioning and going below the prescribed speed limit. “We’re also using the Peugeot Eco Fun Run to prove that our vehicles are extremely miserly even in regular driving conditions,” explained Magsajo.

In the owners’ division, on board a Peugeot 3008 1.6 e-HDi Microhybrid, the pair of Manolo Nicanor and Christina Neri came out on top as they set a 23.8 km/l record, while in the guest division, also on board a Peugeot 3008 1.6 e-HDi Microhybrid, Mikko David and partner Dawny Reyes set a 25.6 km/l record to lead the pack. During the awarding, the teams that set the highest fuel mileage numbers for all of the stagings were awarded the grand prize—a trip to Paris for the team members. In the owners division, that distinction went to Arcadio Tolentino and his wife Mary Elizabeth Tolentino, who achieved 28.5 km/l on board a Peugeot 508 1.6 e-HDi Microhybrid, a midsize luxury sedan equipped with the same fuel saving engine as that of the Peugeot 3008 1.6 e-HDi Microhybrid. In the guest division, the team of Ronnie Trinidad and Tinni Isaguirre also achieved 28.5 km/l on board a Peugeot 3008 1.6 e-HDi Microhybrid. The Tolentinos and Trinidad and Isaguirre achieved the feat during the September 21 staging of the Peugeot Eco Fun Run.

Traversing the familiar Manila to Subic and back and route via Mindanao Ave., NLEX and SCTEX, the Peugeot Eco Fun Run features a route that mixes city and highway driving conditions. The route had several traffic chokepoints and the winning teams achieved the feat in just a little over two hours, proving that even through realistic driving conditions, the Peugeot 3008 1.6 e-HDi Microhybrid is truly a fuel miser—something that EDI plans to prove in the provinces as well. “I think we’ve proven, through several stagings of the Peugeot Eco Fun Run, just how fuel-efficient our products are. Next year, we plan to take this program to the provinces where we have a presence. We’d like as much of our customers to learn how to maximize the use of their Peugeot vehicles,” ended Felix J. Mabilog, Jr., EDI president & COO.

The Peugeot Eco Fun Run was made possible with the support of Total Phils, the event’s official fuel provider, and the Manila North Tollways Corp.
