Suzuki’s “Battle of Kings” heats up

Riders from the Davao region try to outrace the competition to qualify for the final rond of the Suzuki Raider Breed Wars in Tagum City. Winners of the race will represent the region at the National Finals on December.

MANILA, Philippines - Davao del Norte’s New Municipal Hall grounds gained a new dimension when it  became a race track and was packed with spectators when the Davao del Norte leg of the 2013 Suzuki Raider Breed Wars powered by Phoenix Cyclomax kicked off recently.

The event, dubbed as the 250 Meters “Battle of the Kings,” has three race categories: the Underbone 115, the Scooter 130, and the Raider 150. The races are exclusive for Suzuki motorcycles. Thirty seven riders raced for the crown but only one was hailed King of Tagum in each category.

Manuel Vincent Sumog-Oy of V-MAN Racing Team outperformed other racers as he topped both the Scooter 130 and the Underbone 115 categories. Following him in the Scooter 130 category are his teammate Jerry De Leon and GRT Davao’s Jeasar Melendres, respectively. In the Underbone 115 category, teammates Johnnel Mandapat and Ralph Castillo of MBRD-BARDAHL finished second and third, respectively. Ariel Magrilos of Davaoeño Racing Development finished first in the Raider 150 category. He was followed by Manuel Gascon of Jetron Racing and Anthony Ociones of Zafratt at second and third, respectively.

These crowned Kings of Tagum will travel to Manila via an all-expense paid trip on December to represent the province in the 2013 Suzuki Raider Breed Wars National Finals for a chance to win P50,000.

The Raider Breed Wars is now on its fourth year. It exemplifies Suzuki Philippines’ commitment to bring excitement to its customers without compromising rider and spectator safety. The RBW is a free drag racing event sanctioned by the National Motorcycle Sports and Safety Association (NAMSSA). It provides the proper venue and safety gears to all participating riders and drag racing enthusiasts.
