Mitsubishi Motors Philippines records highest sales in May

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The local automotive industry closed the month of May registering sales of 15,859 units, a modest growth of 5.1 percent as compared to April sales of 15,095 units.  The continuous robust economy was well reflected with the year on year sales surge of 23.3percent as industry sales reached to 72,988 units for the first five months of the year.

Meanwhile, Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corp. (MMPC) recorded an all-time highest monthly sales of 4,063 units for May.  MMPC total sales for May is also 11.1 percent higher compared to April sales of 3,658 units and is significantly up by 35.2 percent versus the total sales from the same month last year.  Year on year sales also reflected a remarkable double digit growth of 25.6 percent . Combined reports from Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc. (CAMPI) and Truck Manufacturers Association showed that MMPC captured 24.3percent market share for the month of May, making it a strong number two automotive brand in the country.

Cars and light commercial vehicle (LCV) sales improved as several models performed well in their particular categories.  Sales for the Montero Sport reached 1,511 units making it the number one vehicle sold for the month of May.  This is also the highest sales that the Montero Sport reached since its introduction in 2008.  The Montero Sport continuously draws interest not only in the SUV segment but also in other vehicle segments, because of its superb handling, features and best value for money. The Adventure also remains to be among MMPC’s core and bestselling models that predominantly attract families as well as small and medium entrepreneurs with the need for a practical, reliable, and very low running cost vehicle. Last month, a total of 600 Adventures were sold which is a 12% increase from the previous month’s sales. The Strada pick up is also up by 35% with 404 units sold. With the market’s excitement on the Limited Edition model of the Pajero in commemoration of its 30 years anniversary, sales for Pajero notably went up by 136.6%.  The Mirage and Lancer EX sales were also modestly up by 1 percent and 15.7 percent respectively.

Aside from the healthy financial condition and with the country’s progressing economy, the exciting promos and offers, which make it more affordable for customers to purchase a brand new vehicle highly contributed in improving the sales of MMPC.  On its year-long celebration of its 50 Years Anniversary, MMPC will continue to provide its valued customers exciting offers and best deals that will make it easier for them to own their dream Mitsubishi vehicle.

“With our constant growth and improvement on our performance, we at MMPC are very optimistic that we will be able to reach or even surpass our business targets for the year.  We are truly ecstatic for achieving the highest monthly sales last May.  Aside from keeping our models exciting through introducing upgrades and recently releasing Limited Edition to some of our bestselling models like the Montero Sport GTV, Strada GLX and Pajero, we will maintain the market’s enthusiasm on the Mitsubishi brand by bringing in more world-class models in the country,” MMPC president and CEO, Hikosaburo Shibata said.
