Peugeot 3008: Setting benchmarks in design, fuel efficiency and earth-friendliness

MANILA, Philippines - The Peugeot 3008 is a compact, spacious and responsible crossover. Not only does the 3008 marry all of the best attributes of an SUV, an MPV and a hatchback in a single package, thanks to its highly efficient mix of powerplants (1.6- and 2.0-liter HDi), it also comes out on top in terms of fuel economy and earth-friendliness.

Because Peugeot HDi (High-pressure Direct Injection) cars use around 30- to 50-percent less fuel, they release 30 to 50 percent less CO2 than an equivalent turbo gasoline car. This helps reduce the carbon footprint of the vehicle and also means better fuel economy, which translates to fuel savings for the driver.

Also, Peugeot HDi diesel engines trap diesel particles using a technologically-advanced filter called DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter). This technology helps to reduce pollution by 99.9 percent, and automatically burns off the trapped particles left in the exhaust system.

The Peugeot Eco Fun Run

The Peugeot 3008’s fuel-efficiency will be put to the test by no less than 10 media outfits on Thursday, June 27 as EDI stages the Peugeot Eco Fun Run. EDI has invited 10 media participants to drive the 1.6L e-HDi Peugeot 3008 variants from Alabang to Batangas and back in normal driving conditions (with the vehicles’ airconditioners turned on and well above the speed limit).

With Peugeot’s leadership in diesel technology, EDI officials are confident that the media can come up with significantly good fuel economy numbers. Initial tests done by EDI indicate that an e-HDi-equipped vehicle can run up to 20 km/l despite the absence of fuel-saving techniques.

“We are confident about our vehicles and their fuel-saving capabilities. The Peugeot 3008 in particular, has given us good numbers since we brought the units in. Even heavy-footed drivers can drive up to 14 km/l in mixed city and highway driving while using the 3008—using diesel fuel at that. Given tips on how to properly drive the vehicles, anyone can improve on that number and take it up to the 20 km/l range.
