The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Don’t let the abbreviations confound you. These are all what you will see, hear and feel at the longest running and most enduring car show in the country—the 22nd Edition of the TRANS SPORT SHOW. Starting May 30 at the SMX Convention Center in the SM Mall of Asia Grounds, Pasay City, the show, organized by Tradeshow International, Inc., will have “Driving Generations” as its theme and will feature special events guaranteed to reinforce its position as the “car show like no other.”

DTM@TSS. At flag off there will be displays of the Philippine Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft (DTM) cars and the launch of an old-school racing event called the “Class DTM Championship.” DTM is the German Touring Car Championship, a highly prized race series in Europe in the mid-80s. Initially a race of only German marques, Audi, BMW, Mercedes Benz, the series DTM evolved to include non-German brands like Alfa Romeo. Members of the Philippine DTM Revival, an organization of German touring race car enthusiasts will promote this series at the show.

WRC@TSS. Group B rally cars that have made significant impact in the international rally circuit, including the World Rally Championship (WRC) and the Asia Pacific Rally Championships will be represented in the show. Two of these cars were game changers--the mighty Audi Quattro (a road going version will be displayed) and the wild-to-drive Nissan 240RS. The 240RS also saw action in the Philippine race scene in the late 80s driven by rally legends like Robert Aventajado. There were about five 240RS race cars in the Philippines during the heydays of rally. There will also be an 80s Opel Manta B.

JDM@TSS. The Trans Sport Short began the trend of JDM (Japan Domestic Model) cars with a persistent display of Japanese show cars. This year we have car judges from Japan to help continue the unbroken tradition of judging integrity and choice of the show. 2013 sees the return of Minoru Gouko, a well-known Japanese auto aficionado and Toshihiko Ohno, former president of Toyota Motor Co. of Japan and a much-revered car enthusiast. Gouko and Ohno, together with long time Trans Sport Show judge Osamu Hasegawa, will lead the panel this year.

DJ+EMEX@TSS. The connection between cars and music has never been highlighted than a sound off for EMEX MANILA (Electronic Music Conference and Audio Expo). DJ Jam@Trans Sport Show with Manolet “DJ Papi” Santos and Boyet Sison of Switch DJ leading the group
