Isuzu D-MAX Cycling Team sets out to conquer multi-sports events in 2013

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Isuzu D-MAX Cycling Team is gearing up to dominate various multi-sports competitions in 2013 with the addition of new members that are seen to boost the team’s chances in other sporting disciplines.

Adopting the battle cry of “Conquering Endless Possibilities,” the team vows to take on land events like biking and running, water sports through swimming, and podiums by winning—all in line with the Isuzu D-MAX pickup’s tagline of “The Possibilities are Endless.”

From the 12 members when it started in 2011, to the 15 members in 2012, the team is roaring off this year with 22 members who will compete in triathlons, in addition to the downhill/gravity mountain-biking, cross-country and Xterra events where the Isuzu D-MAX Cycling Team had carved a name during the previous two years.

Among the prominent names that will ensure its further success this year are sports enthusiast and celebrity Matteo Guidicell, and the father-and-son tandem of Frederick Farr (who led the Philippine National Cycling Team to a silver-medal finish at the 2007 Southeast Asian Games that were held in Thailand) and Jerrick Farr, a consistent podium finisher last year. The Farrs are also the only father-and-son duo competing at the professional level in any sport locally.

Meanwhile, the arrival of Jomer Lim, a Cebu-based triathlete who has consistently topped the 30-to-35 age group in all major triathlon events around the country, is seen to bolster the Isuzu D-MAX Cycling Team’s performance this year. In 2012, Lim was nominated as the best in his age group by the SWIM.BIKE.RUN triathlon forum.

“The impressive performance of the Isuzu D-MAX Cycling Team in the past two years is an indication of its potential,” said Isuzu Philippines Corporation President Ryoji Yamazaki. “The arrival of new members should undoubtedly make the team even more competitive this year, and puts it in a position where the possibilities for achieving triumphs are endless.”

It has been recognized by the Downhill Riders Organization of the Philippines (DROP) as the team of the year while Jerrick Farr was crowned Rookie of the year.

In 2013, the team intends to compete in at least 10 downhill races; 10 cross-country amateur and professional events that are made up of 20K to 100K rough-terrain distances; and major triathlon and duathlon events that call for variations of 1.5K to 2K open-water swim, 35K to 90K mixed road and cross-country riding, and 5K to 21K road and trail runs.
