Hyundai gets your drift! New 2013 Genesis Coupe launched

- The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - If you are into high-velocity action, chances are that the engine performance, precision handling and even the vehicle’s aerodynamic design are at the top of your sports car checklist. Luxuries like ample cabin space, impressive dashboard design and even a top-of-the-line entertainment system are easily sacrificed. But it doesn’t always have to be this way.

So what do you get when you cross the best luxuries of a premium Hyundai sedan and the high performance engineering of a sports car? You get the new 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe.

Drifting DNA

Inspired by enthusiasts for enthusiasts, the Genesis Coupe has not only been the favorite of professional and amateur drifters and racers in the country, it has also won the approval of several award-giving institutions such as the 2009 Best Class 8 Sport Sedan/Coupe (3.8 V6), 6th Annual C! Awards’ Best Sport Sedan/Coupe (3.8 V6) and 7th Annual C! Awards’ Best Sport Sedan/Coupe (3.8 V6) from C! Magazine. Auto Focus People’s Choice Awards voted the Genesis Coupe as the 2009 & 2010 Sports Car of the Year, Auto Focus Media’s Choice for 2010’s Best in Design and Best Value for Money in the Sport Car Category in 2011. During the Car of The Year Awards 2009 – 2010, the Genesis Coupe took home the title of DMF Drifting Best Handling Car and Sports Sedan/Sports Car (2WD) of the Year. Proof that the Genesis Coupe is everything you need in a serious sports car and not just a pretty face.

New face

Breathtakingly beautiful and powerfully intimidating, the 2013 Genesis Coupe sports a refreshed, more aggressive, urban-racer distinction. Staring you down are new dagger-shaped, state-of-the-art HID Headlamps and redesigned fog lamps for enhanced visibility. And moulding flawlessly into the Genesis Coupe’s fluidic form are its new, massive hexagonal front grille opening, twin hood accents, and 19-inch Hyper-Silver alloy wheels to seal the deal as a seriously eye-catching sports car. And even from behind, the 2013 Genesis Coupe captures your gaze with its new LED Rear Combination Lamps.

Inspired by speed

The 2013 Genesis Coupe doesn’t just look fast, it is fast. Adding more power under the hood is the new 2.0-Liter I4 Theta engine with a Twin-Scroll Turbocharger that provides the Genesis Coupe with a pulling power of 260 ps, which is an adrenaline-pumping 50-ps increase from the 210 ps of the previous model. This is due to the new Twin-Scroll Turbocharger that recovers more energy from the exhaust than a single-scroll design and produces a higher power output. And for those who demand uncompromising power, the 3.8-liter V6 Lambda RS engine is also available in the 2013 Genesis Coupe and unleashes 303 ps of pure power and outstanding acceleration. Aside from more power, this new sports car also offers better fuel efficiency with a new 8-Speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters, giving you two additional gears to help keep the engine at its optimal range.

For superior braking performance during intense speeds, Brembo brakes now come standard with the new Genesis Coupe manual transmission variants. Other safety enhancements include Active Headrests that help prevent the risk of injury from a rear-end collision and six airbags including Driver and Passenger Airbags as well as Side and Curtain Airbags.

However, power without control is meaningless. And that’s why the all-new 2013 Genesis Coupe chassis positions the engine between the front wheels but controls the rear wheels via the transmission prop shaft and the TORque-SENsing ability or TORSEN limited-slip differential, which is standard in all variants. Producing the near-ideal 55/45% (front/rear) weight distribution for the coupe’s size and weight ratio, the TORSEN limited-slip differential senses wheel-spinning slips during acceleration or on slippery surfaces and evenly distributes engine output between the driven wheels for maximum grip and directional stability.

Raising the luxury standards

Unexpected from its racy façade, the new 2013 Genesis Coupe is generous in its luxurious features and ergonomic comforts. Heightening the cabin’s opulence is a sleek Central Console with a 5.6-inch Display with an Infinity Sound System + Bluetooth + USB / Aux-in / iPod Terminal with FM/AM Radio + 6-CD Changer + MP3 Player. Detailing important vehicle information is the Triple Gauge Cluster located in the middle of the console, monitoring acceleration, torque and oil temperature readings. A Trip Computer provides the trip distance, average fuel consumption and speed, instant fuel consumption, and the distance to your next refuelling. Completing the dashboard experience is a Stitched Crashpad, giving a hand-finished look more commonly found on luxury automobiles. Keeping you safe is a new Seatbelt Extension Guide that provides extra convenience when reaching for the seatbelt.

Life at top speed

Inspired by speed enthusiasts and reengineered to excite everyone on the road. The new Genesis Coupe has the power to get your pulse racing for life at top speed. Step in the driver seat and take control of absolute power of the 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe.

The 2013 Genesis Coupe is available in Dynamic Yellow, Super Red, White Frost, Blue Shift, Stirring Silver, Magnetic Gray, Phantom Black, Horizon Blue, and Crystal Copper.
