Toyota throws thanksgiving bash, supports flood rehab efforts

MANILA, Philippines - Early last week, Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) threw a midyear thanksgiving party for media friends and supporters at the Wine Bar in El Pueblo, Ortigas Center. “The month of August marks a significant period in TMP’s history as it celebrates its 24th anniversary,” explained TMP President Michinobu Sugata who was there to lead the festivities.

TMP started its operations in the country in 1988, and soon after, established itself as the number 1 automotive manufacturer and distributor in the Philippines. This Dragon year continues to look bright for the company. “I am personally happy to be able to welcome TMP’s anniversary with very good momentum,” expressed a cheerful Sugata. “Last year was a tough time for me, but I clearly remember every word of sympathy and encouragement that was given by you, our media friends, at the time of the Japan earthquake and tsunami. I am very happy and appreciative to know that Toyota has many strong supporters in the Philippines, who have definitely helped TMP recover fully from the unfortunate calamities last year,” he explained with gratitude.

The company experienced a sluggish first quarter, due mainly to supply shortages from Thailand, but bounced back quickly in the second quarter in terms of sales performance. As a matter of fact, Sugata was proud to establish that “For the month of July, TMP achieved its highest monthly sales record with 6,258 units.” Truly a reason to celebrate, as this is the first time TMP has broken the 6,000-unit mark, which so far, no other manufacturer or distributor in the country has achieved.

It was also during this bullish run that Toyota dominated the passenger car segment with a whopping 49.8 percent of the market. Meanwhile, the Vios recorded its highest monthly sales total of 1,654 units. In the commercial vehicle segment, Toyota remained on top with a 40 percent market share. Furthermore, Toyota’s luxury brand, Lexus, posted an all-time high with the sale of 41 units for the month.

Amidst all these industry achievements, Sugata did not fail to express his deepest sympathy for all those affected by the recent destructive flooding in Luzon. “Words cannot express the hardships that this has caused,” he exclaimed. And as a way of showing TMP’s support, the company will be donating a total of P1million to the province of Laguna and to the City of Sta. Rosa for their rehabilitation efforts.

Finally, to further assist affected Toyota vehicle owners, Sugata shared that “TMP will be providing discounts for parts and labor for flood-damaged cars. There will be a 40-percent discount on engine ECU, 20-percent discount on selected flood-affected parts and a 20-percent discount on labor. We anticipate the needs of our customers during these times and we are committed to help them move forward.”
