Honda signifies support to Haribon during Blue Skies Alliance Forum

-

MANILA, Philippines - During the environment forum hosted recently by Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI), the Honda group of companies consisting of HCPI, Honda Philippines, Inc. (HPI), Honda Parts Manufacturing Corporation (HPMC) and Honda Trading Philippines (HTP), through the Honda Foundation, signed a Memorandum of Agreement with Haribon Foundation to signify Honda’s participation to Haribon’s Road to 2020 project. Road to 2020 is an environmental conservation movement that aims to restore one million hectares of Philippine rainforests using native tree species by year 2020 in order to recover and conserve biodiversity, optimize supply of forest benefits and ecosystem services, reduce risk of natural hazards and enhance options for sustainable livelihood. The Honda Foundation pledged to support 20 hectares.

Honda formed the Blue Skies Alliance by partnering with both private and government sectors in embarking on an environment forum that dealt with various approaches in attaining sustainable mobility. The forum aimed to provide awareness on the country’s environmental state as well as the government’s and various non-government organization’s efficiency programs to encourage wider participation from both private and public sectors.

In celebration of HCPI’s 20 years of operations, Honda strengthens its longtime environment pledge to leave blue skies for our children, as initiated by Honda’s founder, Soichiro Honda way back in 1966. Honda’s commitment to the environment is not only evident on its high quality and environment-friendly products but also on its operations. Honda has invested in multi-million peso facilities such as wastewater treatment and Universal Carbonizer to recycle waste water and treat hazardous wastes before discharge. The wastewater treatment facility provides thorough recycling and decontamination of used water to make it safe for flushing to Laguna de Bay. As for solid wastes, Honda invested in a Universal Carbonizer ten years ago to turn solid wastes into carbon without emitting carbon dioxide. The Universal Carbonizer is a thermal treatment facility that oxidizes waste without using fire and emitting smoke. Honda is the only manufacturer in the Philippines with this treatment facility. Char, the carbonizer’s byproduct and paint sludge, the factory’s other waste product, are now raw materials in producing cement using the cement-kiln co-processing technology. All these efforts only show how Honda gives premium importance in realizing harmonious co-existence with the community and the environment.
