Petron-AMDG Endurance and Economy Run: Sprinting in the Cold

- Lester Dizon -

In a fitting gesture to welcome the New Year, Petron Sprint 4T motorcycle lubricants and the Ad Majorem Dei Gloria (AMDG) motorcycle club conducted the First Petron-AMDG Endurance and Economy Run, a highly successful road race that saw more than 200 riders take off from the Petron Diego Silang station at the C-5 Road in Taguig last January 3-4.

191 official participants in 8 different classes and nearly 30 guest riders braved the cold weather and were flagged off between 3AM and 4AM to traverse the provinces of Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Nueva Vizcaya, Isabela, Tuguegarao, Cagayan Valley, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union and Benguet and ride to the finish line at the Petron Kissad station at the Marcos Highway in Baguio City. The road trip and economy run was indeed a test of endurance as the riders rode more than 1,000 kilometers in the unusually cold January weather that saw temperatures dip as low as 10 degrees Celsius at the highlands of Nueva Vizcaya and as low as 12 degrees in Baguio.

Francis Rivera, who conceptualized the endurance and economy run along with the AMDG members, was the first to reach the Petron Kissad station at 9:15PM after riding his BMW R1200GS for almost 18 hours. He was followed by AJ Adiviso who clocked in a similar time on board his BMW R1200 GS Adventure but both men were beaten in the points standing by Evangel Mercado whose BMW R1150 GS consumed less fuel and returned 25.99 kilometers per liter. The best overall fuel consumption was displayed by the Honda XRM 110 of Glenn Mora, which returned 52.79 kilometers per liter. Out of the 191 participants, only 97 were able to finish the course within the allotted time

Lawin Motorcycle Club and Luzon Motorcyclists Federation President and Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) Assistant Secretary Reynaldo Berroya, Law Enforcers Riders Association President Gen. Fernando Pace (Ret.), Motorcycle Philippine Federation (MCPF) Director Jojo Medina, Department of Energy (DOE) Director Mario Marasigan, AMDG President Nilo Vergara IV and key officers of the Team Petron Sprint 4T headed by Errol Collado honored the top finishers during awarding ceremonies held at the Prince Plaza Hotel in Baguio City.
