Super Motorbikes at Caltex Delo Sport Truck & Custom Car Show

This year’s Caltex Delo Sport Truck & Custom Car Show will now include super motorbikes and bicycles as part of its regular event highlights. The Bike Show will have its own series of displays, a bike show competition, seminars and other unique features. The 5-day show is all ready to unfold this September 29 to October 3, 2004, at the Megatrade Hall of SM Megamall B, Ortigas Center, Mandaluyong City.

Motorbike aficionados have grown steadily over the years with large displacement exotic superbikes stamping its way as the current rage in the Philippines. Aside from the Japanese bikes like Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki and Suzuki, there has been an influx of high-priced motorcycles from Ducati, BMW, Moto Guzzi, Bimota, Aprilla, Harley Davidson and Triumph to name a few. Aside from road bikes, off-road or trail bikes are also becoming popular in the Philippines. Motorcycle clubs have regular schedules of fun runs all over the country. Fun runs can be as short as within the Metro Manila area or as some groups have done it before, traversing the whole country from Aparri to Davao.

There will also be a display of bicycles for special use such as mountain bikes, touring bikes, velodrome bikes and triathlon bikes from Trek, Cannondale, Shimano, Colnago, Seven and Corima. The Manila Sport Car Club will display a special bicycle donated by BMW, which was used by the security marshals during the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. The bike can be folded for easy storage and has many features that are innovative even today.

Several motorcycle and bicycle clubs are represented in the show, among them the BMW Owners Society of Saferiders; Ducati Desmo Club; Greenhills Cycling Club; HD Riders; National Motorcycle Sports & Safety Association; Philippine Scooter Federation; Vintage Motorcycle Society Philippines and the Manila Sports Car Club. Most of the aforementioned clubs are also joining the open class show competition for motorcycles. Some of the notable entries for the competition are as follows: a 2004 Ducati 999R; a 2001 Ducati Monster 900; a 2004 Ducati 749; a 2004 Harley Davidson Classic Softail; a 2002 Harley Davidson Fatboy; a 2002 Suzuki GSX 1300R Hayabusa; a 1977 Colin Lane Racer Bike; a 1979 Bob Jackson Tandem Bike; a 1942 BSA Clubman 600; a 1964 Triumph Trophy; a 1960 Norton Commando and a 1960 BMW 600.

Organized by TradeShow International, Inc. (TSI), the motor racing inspired 2004 Caltex Delo Sport Truck & Custom Car Show has become the Mecca for sport truck, custom car and automotive racing enthusiasts bringing together under one roof, the most wildly modified sport trucks, SUVs, pick-ups and cars in the country. This is the show were monster trucks and gull-winged Hondas are the norm and not the exception. This year, more than 50 well-prepared sport trucks, SUVs and custom cars will be on hand to compete for class honors and ultimately, for the much coveted "Best of Show" award.

Ramon To-Ong, last year’s sport truck "Best of Show" winner will put on display his tough 4x4 off-road racers namely: a 1985 Toyota Hilux Pick-up, 1958 Chevy pick-up and a 1992 Toyota Surf. Brian Diaz of Ride, Inc. and last year’s 1st runner-up "Best of Show" winner will also exhibit his mighty 4x4 off-road racers namely: a Jeep CJ-7 and a Toyota Landcruiser. Veteran racer, Mike Potenciano will loan his Formula 2000 open wheel racecar for display.
