Affordable Two-wheeled Fun

What could a motorcycle enthusiast buy with three thousand three hundred pesos? Hmmm... let’s see: a pair of imported riding gloves, or a mid-level crash helmet, or a couple of street tires, or a Kymco Activ 110. Yup, you read it right: P3,300 is enough down payment for qualified buyers to take home a P42,000 Activ 110 moped/under-bone/cub motorcycle from Motortrade, the country’s largest motorcycle dealer with its extensive nationwide dealer network.

The first Pampanga Bike Meet organized by the Club A and the Pampanga Jet Club and supported by the Luzon Motorcyclist Federation (LMFI) held last February 7 at the Mimosa Leisure Estate in Clark Field was the venue where Motortrade launched their special financing offer for the Activ 110. On top of the attractive down payment scheme, they also featured the bike in three new attractive and exclusive colors: Passion Orange, Red/Black and Yellow/Blue (the official colors of Motortrade). The Philippine Scooter Federation (Pampanga Chapter) and the Activ Riders Club members joined S.C. Kymco Pilipinas and Motortrade officials in showcasing the unique moped during the meet.

The special colors accentuate the sporty features of the bike, which, even when finished in its factory-stock combination of blue/silver, black/silver or red/silver accented with tastefully restrained stripes, has a clean and attractive overall design. The design is likewise integrated as exemplified by the front lighting system (which combines the head lamp and front signal lights into a single unit), the faired-in rear signal lamps, large flush-mounted rear tail lamp and chrome passenger grab handle/parcel tie-down bar. The lamps and accessories were designed to look integrated with the bike as opposed to looking like an after-market accessory, as some lamps or accessories seem to appear on other motorcycles.

The sporty theme of the moped is continued with 17-inch 5-spoke alloy wheels shod with 2.50-17 tires in front and 2.75-17 in the back. Motivation is provided by a 4-stroke air-cooled 107cc single mated to a wet multi-disc clutch and rotary 4-speed semi-automatic transmission, with the power train designed for durability and economy. Fuel consumption is estimated at about 35 kilometers to a liter and with a 4-liter fuel tank capacity translates to a range of about 140 kilometers between fill-ups. Braking power comes courtesy of two-piston front disc and rear drum brakes.

With a length of 2000mm and a width of 690mm, the Activ is a natural at squeezing into traffic and therefore ideal for the city. It is delightfully maneuverable, agile and light at 98kg. Rider confidence is further enhanced with a low seat height and well-placed controls while comfort is assured with a generously padded saddle and soft suspension settings. The Activ also boasts of an easy-to-read instrument panel that integrated the speedometer, gear indicator and other warning lights into a single unit. Along with a balanced array of switch gear, hidden wires and cables, ergonomically-designed grip handles and side mirrors, it lends a clean and symmetrical look to the handlebar panel. A rather unnoticeable but nifty innovation is the lockable twist throttle, which combined with the lockable steering add to the owner’s sense of security when he leaves the Activ for a short time.

On top of getting a great deal and riding a sporty moped with unique colors, Activ 110 buyers are also invited to join the Kymco Activ Riders bike club. Riding with a club makes going to a bike meet, such as the Pampanga meet and future meets, much more exciting while enhancing safety. Always remember that there’s safety in numbers.
