Volvo lifts S40 a notch higher in overall value

Volvo’s new S40 elevates the 2-liter car segment a notch higher in terms of safety, performance, reliability and overall value. Long stretches of highway are no challenge for the S40, as is the heavy rush hour traffic. Propelled by a transverse 4-cylinder, 16-valve engine, the S40 rates one of the highest power and torque outputs in its class. This reliable, Swedish-made power plant produces 136 bhp at 5,800 rpm and 190 Nm at mid-range engine speed. Top speed for the S40 is 200 km/h.

Externally, the S40 shares the modern Volvo lines and curves of the S60 and S80. Fluid and constant, this Volvo’s shape evokes compactness and rigidity, with well-placed curvaceous bulges providing the sense of security and safety. Enhancements on the body of the new S40 includes extended front bumpers, fixed focused headlights with clear glass technology and an oval exhaust tail pipe. The spoiler has been moved forward to give a more integrated and powerful look.

Fifteen-inch aluminum alloys complement the sturdy shape while twin headlamps, power side mirrors, side direction markers, spoiler-mounted built-in foglights and stone chip protection mud flaps complete the package.

The Volvo S40 is as at home on narrow, winding roads as it is on the motorway. Its ability to glide along on uneven roads comes from the extremely stiff body made of high strength steel and the individual suspension. Front wheel drive is combined with a complete new front suspension with 18 mm wider front track and 12 mm wider wheel base for improved riding comfort and handling. The Multi-link rear wheel suspension contributes to the pleasant comfort and precise road holding. Its also assist steering as you enter a curve – the rear wheels work together with the front wheels for swift steering response and perfect control throughout the turn.

Inside, the S40 wafts with the delicious aroma of the highest quality leather seating. A 10-disc radio- cassette-CD changer combo provides entertainment. A unique integrated child booster seat keeps the tikes safety tucked in while the front armrests and generous legroom keep adults quietly satisfied. Other amenities include an electronic trip computer, multiplex wiring system, central locking system with Volvo’s exclusive Guard Alarm and of course, power everything – including the driver’s seat.

Like all upper crust Volvos, the S40 has the revolutionary Side Impact Protection Systems (SIPS), the Whiplash Protection System (WHIPS) 4-wheel anti-lock braking system (ABS) with Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD). Coupled with an Inflatable Curtain, Dual front air bags with multiple triggering levels, and the two step door opening make the S40 one of the handful of truly safe cars on the road.
