All set for bigger, better 14th Alegado Cup

CEBU, Philippines — The 14th edition of the Mayor Teresa “Nene” P. Alegado Fiesta Cup in Consolacion promises to be bigger and better featuring a total of 18 sports disciplines.

A historic inter-collegiate basketball showdown featuring six teams from the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) will kick off the month-long tilt on September 7 at the Consolacion covered court.

The contenders for the P100,000 top prize are the two-time CESAFI defending champions University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers, University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors, University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Panthers, University of the Philippines (UP) Cebu Fighting Maroons, Benedicto College Cheetahs, and Cebu Roosevelt Memorial Colleges (CRMC) Mustangs.

On the other hand, the inter-barangay action features the midget (17 Under), SK juniors (24 Under), and seniors (25-above) categories.

Aside from basketball, the other events to be contested are volleyball, sepak takraw, badminton, billiards, lawn tennis, boxing, taekwondo, karatedo, dayon-dayon volleyball, motor racing, 4x4, trailcross, table tennis, chess, and longboarding.

There will also be a Call of Duty and Mobile Legends tournament.

The annual undertaking is fully supported by mayor Teresa “Nene” Alegado, vice mayor Rey Damole, councilors Alforque Ouano, Marilou Casul, Lalinka Villo, Fred Herrera, Leo Napuli, Ben Ermac, Brandon Cuizon, and Salome Palang, ABC President Wesley Alomiren, and SK Federation chairperson Shella Arela Carpina with Paul Alelu Flores as commissioner in charge. — (FREEMAN)
