Boysen’s Color Trend 2015: Four color personalities to redefine Pinoys’ living spaces
MANILA, Philippines -Filipinos nowadays are eager to express themselves more, not just through the clothes they wear but to their living spaces as well, that is why paint manufacturer Pacific Paint (Boysen) Philippines Inc. is paying more attention to colors.
Pacific Paint (Boysen) Philippines vice president Johnson Ongking said in an interview that while the company has been providing thousands of color palettes to customers over the years, making a choice has still been difficult for some.
“We thought it would be easy for them to make a choice but we learned that with thousands to choose from, it is hard for them to make a decision,” he said.
Taking its cue from the fashion industry which forecasts the trends and colors for the year, the company decided to engage Global Color Research, an international consultant based in the United Kingdom to forecast trends for paint this year in a bid to make it easier for customers to choose.
Ongking said that apart from working with an international consultant which helps provide accurate insights into upcoming trends in color, the company also enlisted the help of its dealers on the color choices being made by customers.
The data gathered over a period of six to nine months resulted in four major palettes for different personalities such as naturist, kinetic, avant-garde and perfectionist.
“Based on the research, these are the four major personality types of how people are adjusting to today’s lifestyle,” Ongking said.
Each palette features six paint colors, trimming down the customer’s choice.
Naturist which features deep earth tones such as Thimbleberry, Rich Peat, Brunswick Forest, Granny Orchard, Turkish Marble and Raw Silk, is for those who want to bring in lush greens, warm wood tones and vibrant reds into their living space.
Kinetic, meanwhile, is for those who are energetic with the palette featuring the following: Vinyl Night, Cerise Street, Radioactive Orange, Cyber Police, Kinder Yellow and Tiffany Morning.
For those who want to be bolder and to embrace a more individualistic style, Avant-garde offers colors like Vintage Fandango, Electric Limerick, Indie Ga Ga, Blue Curacao, Bermuda Courtyard and Salsa Night.
As for individuals who prefer going back to classics, Perfectionist provides color choices such as Gold Charms, Walking on Sunshine, Puffy Tutu, Sunday’s Best, Celestial Child and Cupid’s Bow.
The four trends which were launched on January 21, can now be seen in Boysen’s dealers locally and even overseas.
Ongking said those who want to do repainting projects in their homes but are not sure of what color to choose can also take an online quiz at www.boysencolortrends.com to find out which trend suits them.
Ongking’s personal pick is the Naturist trend.
“In my house, I always played safe…I am more of a Naturist,” he said.
While the goal of introducing color trends is to give customers particularly homeowners the confidence to start repainting projects, the undertaking is also expected to boost company sales.
“One thing we understood from talking to our customers is when you have so many color choices, it actually becomes a bit overwhelming and makes the process more intimidating. So what we’re trying with this approach is to give them more confidence. We’re telling them these colors have already been carefully chosen,” he said.
“Over time if people get into the habit (of repainting), then it should increase sales over the long term,” Ongking said.
Asked if the color trends will now be a yearly thing customers should look forward to, he said that is the direction the company intends to take.
“We’re planning to continue it next year,” he said adding that the company will start getting feedback from dealers and customers by March.
