The pros and cons of mining

Judging from the heavy turnout, the mining forum jointly organized by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI), the Management Association of the Philippines (MAP) and the Financial Executives Institute of the Philippines (FINEX) was a huge success with almost 600 people converging at the grand ballroom of the InterContinental Manila hotel. The conference proved to be a blast as passions soared during the discussions on the mining industry’s impact on ecology and the Philippine economy. Manny Pangilinan, Gerry Brimo and Peter Wallace represented the responsible mining group while the environment advocates had Gina Lopez, Christian Monsod and Clive Montgomery Wicks with PCCI Programs and Meetings Committee chair Grace Palma-Tiongco as moderator. The mining forum was such a hit, there just might be a Part Two!

World-class managed health care now available

The newest health maintenance organization in the country Medicare Plus, Inc. or MedPlus was inaugurated recently. Held at the piano lounge of St. Luke’s Medical Center-Global City, the institutional launching was hosted by Arsenio “Archit” Bartolome III, doctor Abraham Pascual, Jose Alberto Alba and doctor Benito Reverente, Jr. The festivities started with an inaugural Mass officiated by Fr. Jerry Orbos followed by the unveiling and blessing of the MedPlus corporate logo. VIP guests include Taguig City mayor Lani Cayetano, Health undersecretary, doctor Teddy Herbosa, Bases Conversion and Development Authority chairman Felicito “Tong” Payumo and other luminaries from medicine, banking, pharmaceutical and manufacturing industries and the academe.
