Gifts industry poised to cash in on govt-driven economic surge

MANILA, Philippines - Reports of increased government spending and foreign direct investments in the second half of the year are buoying up expectations of brisk business activities in the corporate community, prompting even members of the gifts industry to cast their nets for the anticipated windfall.

This early, hundreds of suppliers of corporate gift items are already gearing up to cash in on the government’s projected seven to eight percent full-year growth as they join Corporate Giveaways 2011, the country’s premier buyers’ show on business gifts, premiums, promotional ideas and merchandise incentives.

Now on its 24th year, Corporate Giveaways has virtually become an indicator of the industry’s confidence in the economy, particularly in the second semester when companies shop and gobble up big volumes of gift items for their marketing, merchandising, promotional and year-round gift-giving requirements, especially for the Christmas season.

The event, slated at the A Venue Hall of Antel Lifestyle City, Makati Avenue, Makati City on July 6-8, also includes Office Solutions 2011, the 8th trade exhibit on marketing support services, business solutions, office equipment and uniforms, thus also serving as indicator of growth and expansion of entrepreneurial entities.

The longest running show of its kind in the country, the Corporate Giveaways attracts throngs of purchasing managers, marketing executives, entrepreneurs, employees and even families and individuals looking for new and innovative gift items and keenly observing any significant lifestyle and consumption trends.

A testament to the show’s sustained success is the participation of some exhibitors like Star Paper Corporation and Focus Global that have been with Corporate Giveaways for 20 years now.

Star Paper’s Victorinox brand, which produces the world-famous Swiss Army knives, has been with Corporate Giveaways since 2001 and so has been Mitsui Trading and many other homegrown Filipino companies and small and medium enterprises that now constitute the country’s thriving and expanding gifts industry.

“Their businesses are sustained and made to flourish by similarly expanding foreign and local corporate markets that have grown by leaps and bounds across generations,” said World Expos and Concepts (Worldexco) marketing services manager Rosanna Romero.
