25 years of service, 25 new homes from SM Supermarket

-

MANILA, Philippines - In celebration of their 25th year of service, SM Supermarket, the Philippines’ largest food retail company, shall be giving free houses to 25 deserving Filipino families, through their partnership with the Gawad Kalinga (GK) Community Development Foundation.

The project, which caps their Silver Anniversary celebration this year, is the company’s way of giving back to the community and part of their objective of serving the Filipino people.

The SM Supermarket housing site, situated in Bagong Silang, Caloocan City, will have its groundbreaking ceremony and MoA signing with SM Supermarket’s VP for Operations and project head Gloria Cudala and Gawad Kalinga’s Founder and Chairman Antonio Meloto.

“Poverty is not a lack of resources but a lack of caring and sharing. In Gawad Kalinga, we will not leave the poor behind,” says Meloto.

Cudala, who has been with SM Supermarket since its inception, looks forward to presenting this ‘anniversary gift’ to the GK residents: “We are really thankful because for 25 years, we have been able to provide service and shopping convenience to our customers nationwide, and since this is the season of giving, we chose to donate houses so that we may be able to give these deserving families a chance for a better life. With the help of our friends in Gawad Kalinga, we hope to continue being involved in projects like this that touch our hearts.”

The P3-million housing project is expected to be completed by March 2011.
