Hand and foot care priced within reach

MANILA, Philippines - Basic hand and foot care services have always been practically the same, with terms such as foot spa, pedicure and manicure, hand, leg and back massages, waxing. A couple of years ago, services went a little further with nail art, nail and eyelash extension, including threading and facial spa.

There are a lot of establishments today that offer these services already but basic differentiators now are generally those that point to overall ambience, general comfort and privacy, and of course the price.

However, Spa 101 Foot Spa & Waxing Salon is hardly the latter. Ambience, a caring, highly-efficient and knowledgeable staff, a significant number of service offerings and more importantly, affordable price, are some of its admirable virtues.

It was not hard to fathom the rationale for putting up Spa 101. Since they all love having their hands and feet done professionally on a regular basis, five high school friends put up Spa 101. Spending P1,000 to P3,500 twice or thrice a month, it dawned on co-owner and Spa 101 general manager Darius Flores to “why not put up one that they themselves will enjoy in the first place?”

And so Spa 101 was born out of the desire to fulfill the founders’ own liking for maintaining personal beauty and hygiene and more importantly, provide employment to people out of work and earn something in the process, something that many people desire in these hard economic times.

It was not an easy decision for Flores, but Divine Wisdom intervened. A devout Christian, he quit a well-paying job offering in the Middle East and took to heart running the business, which earned him a bonus since he’d be closer now to his loved ones, one of which is his high school sweetheart and business partner.

There is only one bed for back massage and yet, people keep coming back for a massage, even for just 30 minutes (P100 for spot massage, P100 for head, back or shoulder, P400 if lying down) if only to relax their tired, aching back muscles.

Foot and hand care spa are from P320 to P420 (includes manicure and pedicure with imported nail polish), body wax from P150 to P800 (P350 for half leg, P250 for underarm; Brazilian wax for P500 and full leg wax for P800).

 The beauty of Spa 101 is that it is neither restrictive nor repelling to those with simpler tastes in going to places to have their hand and feet done, plus some other salon stuff. “We make sure that our clients are happy and content with the service they got, which we will always provide with a smile and a quick ‘thank you’ from our staff for being appreciated because of the service they provided. Those will be the hallmark of Spa 101 amid a highly-competitive industry. It is your Fab Find Spa Salon,” Flores said.

With the kind of feedback they have been getting, expansion is a natural course of action, but Flores is taking it easy and won’t get consumed easily with their initial success. Franchising is also in the pipeline, which they plan to engage in either late this year or next year.
