Turning dreams into reality

MANILA, Philippines - Education is the right of every child. However, due to difficult financial circumstances, getting a decent education has somehow become a privilege in the country, even a distant dream for some students.

To boost their chances at realizing their education and eventually helping their families, students look for various scholarships. “I applied for a scholarship because I wanted to help my parents pay for my tuition fees,” said Chloe Faye Regencia, a grade six student at Filinvest II Ideal Montessori Center, Inc.

Chloe and four other students each received a one-year full scholarship grant from leading battery brand, Eveready.

The other Eveready Philippines’ scholars are 1st year high school student Astrid Gale Mejica from Our Lady of Mercy School Quezon City; grade 4 student Elijah Ericson del Rosario from University of the East; grade 3 student Aviary Louise Tabago and grade 4 student Angelico Robles from Filinvest II Ideal Montessori Center.

Always ready to help, Eveready Philippines has been supporting advocacy programs of different non-profit organizations and their causes.

“This year, Eveready has decided to support promising but financially-challenged students in their bid for an education,” Eveready brand manager Claire Guevarra said.

To ensure that they get the best deserving students, the company has set high standards for the grants. Applicants must have no grade lower than 90% and should be active in various extra-curricular activities. They are also required to submit an essay about “I and the community I live in.”

“As part of the Filipino family, Eveready also cares for the community. As such, we want to inculcate these values into the students,” Guevarra said.

Del Rosario, one of the scholars, feels that the Eveready Scholarship is a dream come true. “I was really happy when our principal told me I qualified. It means I can still continue my studies,” he said.

“It is nice to know that Filipino companies like Eveready Philippines is willing to help deserving kids go to school. I hope they continue with this project,” Filinvest II Ideal Montessori Center principal Mrs. Juana Reyes said.
