Meralco cited for its CSR programs

-

MANILA, Philippines - Meralco, one of the country’s top utility corporations, recently added another feather to its cap with a citation for its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs. The prestigious business magazine FinanceAsia included Meralco as one of the companies in the Philippines with the “best CSR practice” — solidifying the company’s reputation as a company with “malasakit” not only to customers but also to the communities that it serves.

The citation was part of FinanceAsia’s ninth annual poll of Asia’s top companies voted by 238 investors and analysts across the region. The results revealed which companies are viewed as the best managed in the region in several categories, which included CSR practice.

“This citation is something the company is truly proud of,” said Christopher Yap, head of Meralco’s CSR office. “Meralco prides itself not only as a company that is one of the best managed in Asia, but also one of the best when it comes to CSR programs.”

In fact, Francisco Ed. Lim, president and CEO of the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE), sent a letter of congratulations to Manolo Lopez, chairman and CEO of Meralco commending him on the outstanding performance of the company as well as his leadership in promoting best practices in the business sector.

“Meralco considers CSR as an investment for the future. One of our major CSR projects is the Meralco Sibol School which allows us to make an impact on education. By ensuring that the pre-school kids in Gawad Kalinga (GK) communities learn in a safe and nurturing environment, we are contributing to a better tomorrow,” added Yap.

Aside from the Meralco Sibol School, Meralco is also involved in the Brigada Eskwela where the company’s engineers and linemen visit various public schools to check the safety of their electrical facility. Meralco’s CSR also comes into fore during natural disasters such as typhoons or earthquakes in making sure that power is restored immediately to affected areas.
