Olivarez College Tagaytay brings 'cool' HRM course to new heights

-

MANILA, Philippines - Many students graduating from high school are now eyeing courses related to tourism since this industry continues to generate jobs despite the global crisis.

And while most school offering Hotel and Restaurant Management (HRM) course provide hands-on training through mock hotel and restaurant settings, a college in Tagaytay has gone beyond this norm many steps further. It has its own 68-room three-star hotel with its fine-dining restaurant and coffee shop to hone the students’ skills in all areas and aspects of HRM.

What’s more? Olivarez College Tagaygay and its Tagaytay Country Hotel are, not only within a few meters of each other, but are part of the sprawling and fully landscaped Olivarez Plaza, a wellness resort and lifestyle center that virtually showcases the various dimensions of tourism and its many challenges.

“Thus, the entire Olivarez Plaza practically constitutes a large HRM laboratory which is, of course, apart from the one inside the school itself,” said operations manager Ephel Olivarez.

“From these state-of-the-art facilities can easily be gleaned the courses we offer and the level of our commitment to top-quality education,” Olivarez added.

Aside from Bachelor of Science in HRM, the Olivarez College Tagaytay offers courses in BS Nursing, BS Business Administration, and Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEED), and technical courses like the two-year Computer Technician and six-month Caregiver courses.

Supporting the school’s industry-sensitive curricula are its highly competent college faculty and such state-of-the-art facilities as the 1,000-sqm internet-linked library, computer laboratory , speech lab, classroom with multimedia, physics, chemistry and anatomy laboratories, mock HRM hotel nursing arts lab, BSBA and BEED laboratories, computer technician lab, PE room, college gymnasium with four taraflex badminton courts and a basketball court, outdoor basketball and tennis courts, and an auditorium with a 600-seat amphitheater and a 1,000-seat convention center that is bigger than the Tagaytay International Convention Center.

In the field of HRM, the students are trained, not only in the school’s mock hotel, but also in its Tagaytay Country Hotel before their actual on-the-job training in local 5-star hotels and those in Singapore and the United States. The students’ education and training are supervised by highly qualified and competent faculty members and industry practitioners.
