The power of excellence
January 8, 2007 | 12:00am
What is excellence? The word is used so often that its meaning has somewhat lost its luster. Excellence isnt merely being the best in the field; it is a choice of beating the odds no matter how high the stakes and of pursuing the superlative instead of the norm and the mediocre.
For 28 years, the Metrobank Foundation has used excellence as a call to arms in the search for individuals who have made it their lifes mission to go above and beyond the call of duty. From teachers, scholars and promising mathematicians, to policemen and women, soldiers and budding young national artists, the foundation has seen the significance of these outstanding Filipinos contribution to society and has given them the recognition they deserve.
In its quest to discover and recognize these men and women, the Metrobank Foundation has established programs that have become a benchmark among corporate foundations. The Search for Outstanding Teachers, The Countrys Outstanding Police in Service, The Outstanding Philippine Soldier and the Metrobank Art and Design Excellence have honored and recognized those who have devoted their lives to their craft while giving substantial contributions to their communities. Not to forget the youth, the College Scholarship Program and the Metrobank Math Challenge have brought out the potentials of the youth; most of whom are now making their mark in their respective lines of work. These youngsters are now agents of change making a difference and making their country proud.
Through the years, Metrobank Foundation has in itself become an active proponent of corporate social responsibility. It is the organizations commitment to lead the private sector in empowering society and helping its countrymen realize their fullest potential.
Great organizations are run by great men. The foundation could not have materialized if not for the vision of its chairman Dr. George S.K. Ty. His determination and long term vision for Metrobank to become a premier universal bank of international standing extends to his passion and commitment of fostering companies that are responsible corporate citizens making meaningful contributions for the economic and social development of the communities in which the bank serves.
The Metrobank Foundation was also fortunate to have another distinguished leader in Placido L. Mapa Jr. His guidance and wisdom from a long and experienced career in the bank has helped the foundation mature into what it is today. Just last year, the foundation is once again privileged to welcome a new leader in Aniceto "Chito" Sobrepeña whose presidency will no doubt bring dynamic energy to the organization and send it soaring to new heights of institutional excellence.
Promoting excellence as a way of life is the greatest legacy that Metrobank Foundation can give the Filipino people honoring outstanding individuals for their commitment to pursue the highest standards in their professional as well as personal lives and who serve as models of dedication, competence, integrity and professionalism. These extraordinary men and women have raised the bar in their own spheres, and have bequeathed a legacy of achievement that should inspire the rest of their colleagues to strive to bring out the best in themselves. The foundation pays tribute to them.
