Sas software helps improve company revenues

When the Bureau of Internal Revenue started using the business intelligence (BI) software of SAS in 2003, it was able to track and collect around P7 to P8 billion, which had been mis-declared and under-declared by certain taxpayers in the previous years.
Revenue recovery is just one among many benefits that the SAS BI software can do for businesses, principally financial and insurance institutions and educational systems and governance, said SAS Institute (Philippines) Inc. president and managing director, Emmanuel Halili.
"We do a lot of projects with BIR in data analysis. In fact, during the old Value Added Tax regime, BIR had a three-month project called RELIEF (or record of listing for enforcement) where it was able to uncover for the 3 to 4-year previous tax periods the under-declaration of P7 to P8 billion, which became subject for further investigation and collection that led to actual recovery of the entire amount," said Sawfin Saw-Buan, industry sales manager of SAS for financial service and public sector.
Under Halilis stewardship, SAS Philippines (incorporated in 1991) grew by five times in the past three years and attained 40 percent growth in 2005. This 2006, Halili projects to grow the company again by 40 percent this time aggressively pushing its products to more government agencies and financial institutions and manufacturing companies.
"We are maintaining and strengthening our leadership position in the local enterprise business intelligence market through leading technologies and solutions such as SAS enterprise intelligence platform," Halili said.
Being one of the highest performing subsidiaries in Asia Pacific, SAS Philippines was recently designated as the center for excellence for the Asia Pacific region in order to meet the service requirements of SAS clients in the region.
SAS Philippines recently conducted its annual meeting in Mandarin Makati which was attended by representatives and officers of 500 local companies, government agencies and organizations, which was keynoted by SAS Asia Pacific Director for Marketing and Alliances, Don Cooper-Williams.
Halili said Globe Telecoms availed of SAS platform for its customer "churn" management program, which delves into predictive analysis of when and why customers transfer to other service providers.
Williams said the SAS business intelligence platform has become a "must investment" for most global companies that want to sustain their operations and remain as leaders in their respective fields.
SAS Enterprise BI (business intelligence) Server and industry specific solutions has led to its record global sales in 2005 of $1.68 billion, up by 10 percent over 2004.
"Our customers rely on the SAS ®9 Enterprise Intelligence Platform to grow profits and improve customer satisfaction," said Jim Goodnight, SAS CEO.
SAS has earned the respect and admiration of several influential industry analysts in 2005 among them Gartner Inc., which positioned SAS in its Leaders Quadrant particularly "Magic Quadrant for Business Intelligence Platforms, IQ06."
