MANILA, Philippines —The Shawarma Shack Relief Operations team and the Philippine Coast Guards made their way to Barangay Santa Rosa 1 and Barangay San Rafael 2, Noveleta last November 4 to provide assistance to victims of Severe Tropical Storm Paeng

After making a second landfall close to the southeast corner of Batangas on October 29, Paeng moved across the Cavite-Metro Manila-Bataan Peninsula region, bringing heavy to intense rain, at times torrential rain.

In Noveleta, Cavite, where the Ylang-Ylang River overflowed, eight barangays were flooded, forcing the evacuation of about 560 residents and at least two individuals were found dead.

After learning about the casualties in Cavite, the Shawarma Shack Relief Operations team headed by the “Godfather of Shawarma,” Walther Uzi Buenavista, Head of Marketing and Communications Ervin Andaya and Head of Purchasing Rowel Elmido immediately coordinated with the area’s local government unit to deliver their donations to the families affected.

They shared that during their journey it was abundantly evident how much devastation the typhoon had caused—there was heavy mud covering the streets, tree debris and damaged homes.

Families were also found to be still cleaning up their homes as the typhoon left the majority of the resident’s belonging buried in mud.

The residents of both barangays were relieved and overwhelmed with appreciation as the team came and began distributing food packages and clean drinking water.
