MANILA, Philippines — The International Association of Currency Affairs (IACA) has recognized the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas in the Excellence in Currency 2019 Coin Awards at the biennial coin conference in Rome, Italy.
The BSP’s new generation currency (NGC) coin series and the Coin-Ed campaign were among the top three finalists awarded in the best new circulating coins and best public education program categories, respectively.
During the awards ceremony, IACA cited the enhanced aesthetic of the NGC coins, cutting-edge security features, and improved wear and corrosion resistance capabilities.
The NGC coins including the 10-piso, five-piso, one-piso, 25-sentimo, five-sentimo and one-sentimo released in March 2018 feature native flora, heroes and stylized Philippine flag.
On the other hand, BSP’s Coin-Ed program was lauded for utilizing multiple communication channels aimed at increasing awareness and promoting public engagement in the recirculation and proper use of the new coins.
Aside from face-to-face briefings, printed materials, television and radio, the BSP also made use of social media to expand the reach of its Coin-Ed animation videos and infographics.
The Tricolor 20 Ouguiya of the Central Bank of Mauritania was awarded best circulation coin, while Bank of New Zealand’s Armistice Day Coin Public Awareness Campaign was awarded best public education program.
