The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corp. (HSBC) has renewed its commitment to education by partnering with SOS Children’s Villages in Cebu and Lipa in Batangas to fund education projects and skills training programs for disadvantaged children.

The commitment is part of Future First, the HSBC Group’s flagship education program that aims to tackle child poverty and youth unemployment through access to education.

The P4.2-million grant given to SOS Children’s Village in Cebu will be used to fund a computer education program for a total of 1,440 disadvantaged young people of Talamban, Cebu over the next three years.

SOS Children’s Village in Lipa will implement a program called “Education and Development of the Youth” using the P10.7-million Future First grant to offer specialized training and career development planning to 375 adolescents.

Through this program, the organization aims to build skills through training and provide opportunities for employment through career planning sessions and placement offerings.

Globally, HSBC has pledged a total commitment of $40-million additional funding to Future First to support more than 50 projects in 26 countries.

The program has helped over half a million of the world’s most marginalized and impoverished young people since 2006.
