Nograles joins Real Bank director

MANILA, Philippines - Former Philippine Deposit Insurance Corp. (PDIC) chief executive Jose C. Nograles has been appointed to The Real Bank’s board of directors.

Nograles brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience in the fields of investment banking and finance as well as stellar experience as one of the country’s financial regulators.

During his stint with the PDIC, he shepherded the passage of amendments to the PDIC’s charter, at the height of the 2008 financial crisis, allowing the agency to have a more proactive co-regulatory role along with the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) by providing institutional and financial strengthening measures to safeguard the interests of the depositing public.

The amended charter also raised the deposit insurance coverage from previous P250,000 to P500,000.

Nograles also led the agency in attaining ISO certification through the development of new business operations on key processes and services to speed up deposit claims processing enabling small depositors to be paid without need for undergoing tedious claims processing.

The new director of the thrift bank, together with the BSP, crafted and launched the Strengthening Program for Rural Banks (SPRB). And it was during his term that the PDIC was nominated as Deposit Insurer of the Year by the International Association of Deposit Insurers (IADI) in 2009.

Prior to his appointment as PDIC president, he was senior executive vice president of the Land Bank of the Philippines where he also served as treasurer and head of investment banking.

Nograles holds a bachelor degree in economics, cum laude, from the Ateneo de Manila University and an MBA from the Asian Institute of Management.  He is a Fellow of the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD), a non-governmental organization that conducts training and advocacy work for corporate governance and corporate social responsibility.
