GCash, Amex tie up
MANILA, Philippines - G-Xchange Inc. (GXI) and American Express (Amex) had joined forces to develop an innovative online payment solution that will allow Globe GCash mobile wallet customers to buy smartphone apps, music, movies, and games.
The same solution will allow GCash customers to shop for electronics, toys, apparel, and many other goods from popular US and UK online sites that accept Amex.
GXI is the mobile commerce subsidiary of Globe Telecom, and provider of the GCash mobile wallet.
Through GCash via Amex, Filipinos who acquire goods can be delivered from the US or UK directly to their homes in the Philippines. Furthermore, customers may also take advantage of thousands of online deals and offers.
GXI president Paolo Baltao said that with less than five percent credit card penetration in the Philippines, the new solution will provide consumers with a new and compelling payment option.
“And all they will need is a GCash mobile wallet to start shopping on online sites outside the Philippines,” Baltao added.
Both GXI and Amex executives agree that the Philippines is a market with strong growth potential, especially from banking services to e-commerce.
GXI is one of the leaders in m-commerce, having the mobile commerce service called GCash in 2004. GCash is an internationally-acclaimed mobile commerce service, which allows Globe and TM subscribers to send and receive cash conveniently anytime and anywhere.
It delivers over one single platform the three major cash transactions made by consumers today: purchase and payments, person-to-person (P2P) transactions, and domestic and international remittances.
Amex is a global services company, with a strategy of opening its merchant network and card product portfolio to third party issuers around the world. It established 139 partnerships in 155 markets across the world.
