MANILA, Philippines - Citi Philippines and Citi Pakistan have been recognized and awarded the ‘Best Community Program’ in the ‘Gold Category’ at the Global CSR Summit 2011, for their pioneering work in microfinance and vocational training. This award is one of five categories and recognizes the company that has successfully implemented a community project that has resulted in poverty alienation, better education, business growth or community engagement. This year’s theme at the Asian conference, held Aug. 11-12 in Cebu City, was ‘Beyond Sustainability’ and the awards aimed at ‘finding Asia’s most sustainable company’. Citi Philippines and Citi Pakistan are committed to efforts to advance the microfinance industry. This is evidenced through their participation in the Citi Microentrepreneurship Awards (CMA), supported by the Citi Foundation. Now in 28 countries, CMA illustrates and promotes the effective role that individual microentrepreneurs have made to the economic sustainability of their families as well as their communities.
