LOS BANOS, Laguna A program that will train the self-reliant team (SRT) leaders of a government agency on credit is on.
The capability-building training of about 30,000 SRTs of the Quedan and Rural Credit Guarantee Corp. is being undertaken by QUEDANCOR and the Los Baños-based, government-hosted Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA).
QUEDANCOR and SEARCA had earlier signed a memorandum of agreement for the implementation of the five-year program. Signatories to the MOA were QUEDANCOR president and CFO Nelson Buenaflor and SEARCA director Dr. Arsenio N. Balisacan.
A brainchild of Buenaflor, the program is a package of innovative, collateral-free loan technology and market access. It covers viable mono-crop, multi-crop planting, integrated farm production activities, and other livelihood projects.
To be more responsive to the needs of the farmers and fisherfolk QUEDANCOR charted the capability-building program for its 30,000 SRTs nationwide. The program participants are those who avail themselves of the credit services of the government agency.
The programs first phase covers the national capital region (NCR), Region 1 (Batao, Ilocos Norte), Region 5 (Camarines Sur), Region 6 (Iloilo City), and Region 9 (Musuan, Bukidnon).
Dr. Jesus Fernandez, SEARCA training manager, told The STAR that short-term training program for program participants from the NCR and Ilocos Norte have been conducted. Those from the NCR (3) were small retailers while those in Ilocos Norte (24) were tomato growers. Rudy A. Fernandez
