Over 100 million test messages are sent by close to 11 million subscribers of cellular phones in the country, and EastWest Bank is determined to take advantage of the potentials offered by mobile phones.
Recently, EastWest Bank introduced Mobile Access as the banks latest addition to its growing array of banking products and services. The mobile phone banking facility allows text-savvy and mobile phone-carrying individuals to perform banking transactions over-the-air through Smart cellphones.
"Todays generation carries so much affinity to a cellphone and it has become a status symbol and a way of life, EastWest Bank executive vice president and chief information officer Teody D. Suarez said. "We want to bring down the barriers to account access and ensure that an EastWest Bank customer can easily transact using his access point of choice-whether through the branch, the ATM, via the Internet or through mobile phone.
Clients can do banking transactions using a Smart Communications mobile phone through short message system (SMS), or more popularly known as texting, and Smart Tool Kit or STK. They can perform various functions including balance inquiry, Smart Money cash reload and Smart Money cash transfer.
EastWest Bank clients with peso savings or current accounts who want to avail of the Mobile Access facility should enroll their accounts. Upon enrollment, clients will receive their Mobile Personal Identification Number (MPIN) within 24 hours via a text message.
