WWF taps celebrities as environmental stewards

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippines has been blessed with an incredible range of wildlife, ranking 10th globally for biological diversity. Conversely, the country is the third most vulnerable nation to climate change.

As we face a climate-defined future, each Pinoy has an important role to play in building a sustainable future for the country.

To encourage more Pinoys to be part of the solution, the World Wide Fund for Nature Philippines (WWF-Philippines) has teamed up with celebrity advocates who have pledged to champion environmental sustainability and biodiversity conservation.

Joining the WWF-Philippines family are newly-appointed Environmental Stewards Luis Manzano, Piolo Pascual, Mikee Cojuangco-Jaworski, and the Legaspi family – husband and wife Zoren and Carmina, plus kids Cassy and Mavy.

Together with long-time WWF National Ambassadors Marc Nelson and Rovilson Fernandez, the new Environmental Stewards shall represent the organization’s key programs in the Philippines.

Diving enthusiast Luis Manzano champions projects involving marine conservation and advocates green and sustainable living as a Marine Conservation Steward.

Popular actor Piolo Pascual, known for his healthy lifestyle and participation in various environmental initiatives, promotes all project sites for forest protection and watershed management as a Forest and Water Conservation Steward.

WWF-Philippines Climate Change Solutions and Earth Hour Steward is Mikee Cojuangco-Jaworski, who has been an advocate of Earth Hour, the Go Beyond the Hour campaign, plus other WWF climate change and energy initiatives since 2013.

Zoren and Carmina Legaspi, with kids Cassy and Mavy, have been named Environmental Education Stewards.

Aside from continuing the green and sustainable lifestyle they’ve been leading as a family, the Legaspis will also be at the forefront of WWF-Philippines’ environmental education projects and activities.

With the help of its new environmental stewards who have big hearts for the planet, WWF-Philippines aims to communicate key environmental issues and practical ways in which Pinoys can help.

“Together with our national ambassadors and environmental stewards, we hope to reach out to more individuals and communicate WWF’s unique range of environmental solutions. The world is changing. New formulas are emerging. As we face climate change together, the value of this opportunity increases daily. Come and stand with us – it is the best time to move on from the mistakes of the past and craft new solutions for the future,” said WWF-Philippines vice chairman and CEO Jose Ma. Lorenzo Tan.

The world’s largest and most influential environmental solutions organization, WWF boasts of more than 50 years of experience in environmental conservation with projects in over 100 countries, supported by over five million people worldwide.
