RP hosts international pest exterminators confab

MANILA, Philippines –  A professor from Malaysia and a local agriculturist will be among the leading speakers during the 22nd Federation of Asian and Oceania Pest Managers Association (FAOPMA) Annual Conference and Exhibition at the SMX Convention Center in Mall of Asia, Pasay City, on Nov. 17-19.

 Dr. Chow Lee, a professor of School of Biological Sciences, Universiti Sains, Malaysia, will be the speaker during the three-day event hosted by the Pest Exterminators Association of the Philippines (PEAP).

Lee will discuss “cockroach management in the urban environment – pitfalls, challenges and novel techniques”. The theme for this years’ conference is “Think P.E.S.T.! Pest Management in the Right Perspective”. P.E.S.T. stands for People, Environment, and Service & Technology.

The FAOPMA 2010 is presented by BAYER and co-presented by Leads Environmental Health and Syngenta

Dr. Henry Facundo, an entomologist, ecologist and agriculturist, will also be among the speakers with guests from the US, India, Germany, Middle East, and China. Facundo will speak about the “resistance management under Philippine plantation setting: lessons learned”.

Rayner Lorenzo, chairman of FAOPMA2010 organizing committee and managing director of Pest Science Corp., said the annual FAOPMA conference will gather hundreds of outstanding domestic and foreign pest control enterprises as well as more than 400 pest control professionals both local and foreign.

The exhibition will also gather exhibitors covering pest control companies, insecticide instruments, disinfection products, termite control supplies and more, according to Lorenzo.

The pest federation was officially established in 1989 with members from Asian and Oceania countries for the common interests of the pest management industry. Last year’s FAOPMA Annual Conference was held in Beijing, China while the 2011 convention will be held in Goa, India.
