Forum on climate change adaptation set Aug 17-19

-

MANILA, Philippines - A national forum on climate change adaptation (CCA) will be held at the Heritage Hotel in Pasay City on Aug. 17-19.

The “Forum cum Workshop on Research, Development and Extension (RDE) on Climate Change Adaptation” will be jointly conducted by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Ecosystems Research and Development Bureau (DENR-ERDB) and the Adaptation to Climate Change and Conservation of Biodiversity (ACCBio) through the DENR Foreign-Assisted Special Projects Office.

Los Baños-based ERDB is DENR’s research arm. ACCBio, a project assisted by DENR and the German Technical Cooperation (GTZ), aims to strengthen national capacity for mainstreaming CCA strategies and to demonstrate their application to support biodiversity conservation in the country.

ERDB Director Marcial C. Amaro Jr. said the forum-workshop will be participated in by DENR key officials and regional technical research directors and focal persons of research institutions, funding agencies and the academe.

Main beneficiaries of CCA initiatives are small-scale farmers and fisherfolk whose means of livelihood are often affected by climate-related losses, and other vulnerable groups whose livelihood depends on natural resources.

The forum’s outcome is an essential input to the Second Research Sectoral Conference to be held on Aug. 19-20 at Heritage Hotel.
