AGFI backs swine-fattening program

-

AGFI supports swine-fattening program for organized community groups.

Self-sustainability secures a man not only for his own future but also of those generations after him. With this in mind, the Aboitiz Group Foundation, Inc. (AGFI) promotes and supports the livelihood and entrepreneurial ventures of organized groups in communities where Aboitiz companies operate.

Since 2002, AGFI has been giving assistance to a small-scale swine-fattening program for beneficiaries in Cebu. The foundation’s program partner is Fil-Am Foods Inc., the Aboitiz feed milling company based in Capas, Tarlac. Aboitiz provides both the training and the feeds to the beneficiary groups.

AGFI has since granted loans totaling P13 million to deserving organized groups for their swine-fattening activities. These loan assistance packages help these groups in their capital build-up requirements. The proceeds of these loan releases are then lent out to members interested in a swine-fattening venture. To encourage prompt payment and strengthen the values of commitment and responsibility among the borrowers, the foundation institutes the payment of rebates.

This program is aimed to promote the “cooperative spirit” among members of the beneficiary groups and eventually encourage others to join, thereby expanding the cooperative’s capital structure. It also provides an alternative source of income to qualified members and engages unemployed members of the community to be more productive.

The program likewise sustains the supply of meat products in the local market. This can ultimately increase the net worth of the cooperative since rebates are awarded based on the timeliness of members’ payments.

Options for loan renewals are available based on an evaluation of the cooperative’s performance vis-à-vis identified criteria, which aim to reinforce the program and attain concrete and measurable results.

With  this program, AGFI is able to achieve its mission of “helping people help themselves”.
