Book documents results of veggie researches

Results of researchers and on-farm experiments of a Department of Agriculture (DA) R&D project have been documented in a new book that rolled off the press.

The 118-page volume, titled "Packaging of Technology of Different Vegetable Crops," was published by the DA-Technology Generation and Dissemination for the Growth and Development of the Vegetable Industry (TECHGEN) project of the DA-Regional Field Unit IV-A.

The DA-Bureau of Agricultural Research (BAR) funded the publication of the book, which contains modern and recommended crop varieties, production technologies, and farm management tips aimed at increasing the production of quality vegetables, and thus provide farmers and their families more income.

The seeds and information needed for the studies were provided by the DA-Bureau of Plant Industry, UP Los Baños, Allied Botanical Corp., International Seed Co., East West Seed Co., Harbest Agribusiness Corp., and Filipinas Kaneko Seed Co.

Agriculture Secretary Arthur C. Yap, who led members of the DA family and the vegetable industry in the book’s recent launch, expressed the hope that the publication would serve its purpose well and thus energize the industry, particularly in the CALABARZON, the service area of DA-RFU IV-A.

Yap said the book will benefit farmers, entrepreneurs, agricultural technicians, vegetable specialists, trainers, and hobbyists. — Rudy A. Fernandez
